With potential new recruits

Some threads have stated that Caff could sign up to 6 recruits this signing period including:
unnamed PG-possibly JC
Wilkins
Basabe
Brust
Marble
McCabe.

My question(s) are this: That seems like a lot to sign in one class and doesn't allow for a very good spread of schollies down the line. Granted Wilkins only has 3 years of eligibility and if the PG is a JC that's fine, but still have to replace 4 guys in 4 years. Next, that really limits the amount of schollies the next few years, but with 3 forwards in this class do you think Archie or Brommer would be "encouraged" to look else where?

thoughts?

If they are truly worthy recruits, then I am fine with using all of the open schollys this year. But I suspect that if Brust,Archie and Brommer all stay in the fold, then Fran might not use one scholly, leaving him with two next year.
I just think that Brust is a bit of a longshot at this point, but just have to wait and see.

Brust isn't coming, not with the offers that have flooded in this week. Wisconsin seems the most realistic spot for him now. Fran said in an interview earlier this week that he was planning on banking AT LEAST one scholarship for next year. And he is really targeting Marcus Paige for 2012 class - HUGE!!

This is what I want to hear....go get Paige for 2012,please,Fran.

I suspect that Brust will go with the easier path...ie. Wis...already a proven winner. He can be their next JBo. Do they have an open scholly?
I guess that Diamond Taylor leaving earlier in the year left an open scholly?

I gotta say, If I was Iowa I would have put a condition on my release of the LOI. I wouldn't want either of these guys playing in my league.

I haven't seen anywhere that Brust has an offer from wisconsin. How would he be taking the easier path i.e. going to wisconsin and being the next JBo if he did not have an offer from them.

Wisky would not have an open schollie...unless either Gavinski doesn't plan to return for his senior season or Markoff realizes that the recruitment of Evan Anderson means he won't ever play & transfers out (if he hasn't already made that decision). Bohannon & Hughes are seniors, but Anderson & Gasser take their schollies. Diamond Taylor got caught doing the crime well before the basketball season, and Bo Ryan actually recruitied his replacement twice--first Madison hometown star Vander Blue (who backed out and signed with Marquette instead), then another forward (kid from north Chicago suburbs named Dukan) instead of the needed depth at guard...which Brust would fill. Suggests that most likely Markoff is history. (Naturally, Bo would never "run off a player". Naturally.)

I think it's already been reported that Markoff is transferring.

RDOG-You can, its called a conditional release. That's why all of the press releases cite these UNconditional releases for BB and CL.

Nope. You either give them a complete release from the LOI or don't release them. You can put conditions on it if you allow a player to transfer without penalty, but not on releasing them from an LOI. Here's the form that is filled out for releasing a recruit from and LOI...

Page 2 only includes Complete Release and No Release options (there's a provision under the No Release option that allows them contact with opposing coaches but they still must sit out a year).

Semantics. You can tell a kid he can transfer to school x or y, but that you won't release him, which will cost him a year of eligibility.

McCabe and Marble have already signed their LOIs.

i was just going to say that. I am thinking that burst may come abck, but with all the quality programs that want him...Maybe very tempting to go elsewhere. I think the number of schools offing him tells me that Iowa is losing a really good player.

6 is a lot but memphis class is 7 this year and i think from scout that OSU already has 6 this year so i don't know where they are getting the 7th for larson
