With all of this NFL talent...

Every year the Hawks tend to have a mix of top tier talent, and young guys that honestly have no business being on the field. That said, those same players will turn out to be pretty good after a few years, and the cycle continues.

Kirk's recruiting is fairly week, we all know that. He makes up for it with the way he develops players, but that system is flawed in the sense that any player that leaves the program early for any reason hurts really bad, the thread pointing out how he tends to throw away 5-7 scholarships every year hurts really bad.

Then you mix in his style of football, and it's just a recipe for disaster. It makes a lot more sense why his teams lose games they aren't suppose to so consistently, he literally stacks the deck against himself in so many ways.

Iowa really doesn't have "all this talent". Coupled with an obsolete offensive system and hyper-conservative coaching Iowa may just never really recover the hype fans had 10 years ago.

There is a lot of logic with what you've said...It is a cycle and when your a developmental program it's just impossible to always have a jr and sr led team of those developed players. You have to sprinkle in younger kids and usually the less then 3 star kids Iowa gets takes time before they are good. It all goes together as to the why. If Iowa could somehow get some better recruits and score more points .... Last years D just played out of position and stupid at times. It wasn't just that they were physically overmatched so much (although against TN they sure were) Iowa had no business losing to ISU at home. Indiana Wisky or Nebraska the way those games went. So it's also coaching/players doing what they are coached to do and not screwing up their gaps/responsibilities.

Talent doesn't transition. If your game plan sucks and your scheme is behind the times you're going to get beat.

Oh yeah, if you can't prepare for fake punt, or manage a clock you're going to get beat also.
