Left Kinnick with the same shocked feeling as 70,000 others: thinking "what just happened..."
A tough loss so no matter how you slice it and dice it. Topics that have already been touched on, but my own observations:
1. Wisky is a good team. The Badgers came ready to play and had an answer for Iowa each time the Hawks scored.
2. Kinnick was absolutely rocking. Have never heard it as loud as it was late in the 4th. Kudos Hawk fans.
3. Still scratchig my head on the fake punt. It was if nobody on the coaching staff said "watch for the fake." You could just see the middle open up as the Hawks made a mad rush to set up for the return.
4. Still not sure why we continued to kick the ball directly into the hands of their speedster on kick offs. Still don't get that one.
5. Our linebacker pass coverage definitely left something to be desired. We were a step slow all day.
6. Our pass coverage is average at best. Once again we were giving up too much space.
7. The obvious: iowa flat out did a poor job of clock management.
8. Ricky should have should have taken the sack, nor should he have ever tossed that shuffle pass to ARob.
9. Iowa will still have a great season. Iowa and Wisky are pretty much clones of each other and the final stats showed just how even of a game it was.
10. Kirk is still a great coach. I am sure there are some things he might have been second guessing this morning when he woke up, but i will take Kirk as our coach every day of the week.
11. We are definitely missing having Norm on the sidelines. He makes halftime adjustments like no other and that is something that hurt us yesterday.
12. Time to put this game behind us and focus on msu. The Spartans are good but Northwestern showed that even the Spartans are human. The Hawks will rebound next week.
Life continues on. This is still a good team and we can still have a great season. No shame in losing to a tough Wisky team. Yes, unfortunate how the game ended, however, sometimes the breaks go your way and other times they don't.
We have a tough road ahead but i think the Hawks will be ready next week. Kirk is still Kirk. This is the same coach and players we have had the fortune of enjoying. Tomorrow is a new day and we can't undo what happened yesterday.
Yes, losing a close game in the manner in which we did is frustrating. But you learn from the mistakes and you build off of them. I am confident Kirk and the coaches will learn from yesterday's game. Did we have incredible expectations for this season? Absolutely. But now we need to adjust the expectations and move forward and be thankful our program is at the level where we are competing with the best. Go Hawks!
