Wisconsin Will Lose Again

You are right, but so will Iowa likely. I don't understand why every time a team loses people think "win out" immediately after that fact. I tend to think the opposite way.

I think your Stanley thermos is half empty. Mine is half full.

Good point. After the initial pissed off emotion fans start going to the win out scenarios. But in Iowa's case with only 4 games to go, its fairly plausible. Good, legit top 20 teams would sweep Northwestern, @Illinois, and Nebraska. None of them are ranked, none of them deserve to be.

That leaves Purdue who has looked great in some games and awful in others. A depleted MSU team threw them around on Saturday. A physical team (like Iowa always claims to be) should be able to handle them. The rest are B1G West tomato cans.

I'm still real high on Nate, he's a top 10 QB in college football as it stands. Why would you bench that? He had a bad game. He's gonna have more bad games. Great QB's have bad games all the time. I get being upset, I was pretty upset on Saturday too....but I've watched college and NFL football since I was 5 years old and understand that losing, unfortunately is part of the game.

definitely plausible - but after my team loses, my first thoughts aren't typically "well, this team is gonna win out probably" - it just isn't. That would be wishful and blind homer thinking by me. But you are right, Iowa is still ranked in the top 20, they can do it. NW and Purdue are going to be extremely tough games. I expect them to handle IL and NU. IMO, even if it feels hollow, any time Iowa goes above 8-4 I am pretty happy with the season. Just because I know historically the program rarely reaches that mark.

Wisconsin doesn't concern me anymore. They have a chance of losing to Penn State, Purdue and Minnesota.

Northwestern concerns me. Smoke and mirrors or not, they are leading the West. They finish with Nebraska and Illinois in the opposite order of us.

Purdue is the task at hand. Drop that one and Northwestern open up a two game edge on us. We need the Purdue game for a lot of reasons.

This still has a chance to be a whale of a season if we screw our heads back on.
Nice post Cornrich!

( If they win out ) 10-2, w/ zero quality wins. Thanks for that schedule GB & B1G!

Puff up your chest about beating ISU, Northwestern, and Purdue ( all w/ at least 3 or 4 losses )

Its very simple with the Purdue game. Iowa wins, they're the favorite in the West. They lose, chances in the West are gone and NW is the favorite. Northwestern probably isn't losing @Minnesota or to Illinois at home. They are big Purdue fans this weekend.

We may be big Minnesota fans a couple weeks down the road. And you are correct, they do play Minnesota. I incorrectly said Nebraska.

I think in this case people are thinking win out because we probably should have won the two hardest games on our schedule.

While Iowa opened as a slight underdog at Purdue, sagarin and others have them as a favorite.

With a chance to play the likes of Michigan. This is Michigan!

I mean, we certainly have the ability. We're 2 fumbles and 1 completed pass (either the long 1 to Hockenson or the one at the goal line) away from being undefeated. The fact that we're playing like ass and either stomping bad teams or losing tight to good ones (okay, average in Wiscy's case) is a half-full/half-empty scenario.

Either they clamp down on their mistakes and play their best football down the stretch, or they turtle and limp to a middling season. History is actually on Ferentz' side here, considering a staple of his teams is playing their best football in November, so I choose to believe the former.

So you'd rather fizzle out and prove Iowa is no big deal rather than win and have the chance to prove everyone wrong?

If Iowa wins out this is still a very good year. 10-2 is not a bad year. It is not mediocre. We will see what kind of team we have this Saturday.

Stanley was certainly a big part of the loss but he wasn't alone. He had help. The game shouldn't have come down to the interception.

Ding ding ding. We can piss and moan about how weak the schedule is or how we fare against the best teams on it, but you only get to play the teams they put in front of you. IF we take care of business, 10 wins is 10 wins, something that's only happened EIGHT times in the history of Iowa football.
