Wisconsin to get another transfer QB

The easiest way for coaches to stop this is to refuse to grant a release. Most schools wouldn't invest two years of scholarship for a one year player.

in this case with a kid that graduates and goes elsewhere for post graduate school there is no release needed. the only way the NCAA can stop it is to put a limit on eligbility. to playing while eligeble for undergraduate course. meaning once they get a BA degree they are ineligible. not how this would work or if it would. but until then we have to live with it. and let future recruits deal with it.

That is not quite right. They still have to be released from their scholarship. It happened to a bball player. Can't remember who, but he was ineligible to play because the coach wouldn't sign a release for him to move on though he would graduate before the next fall semster.

His numbers last year were terrible. 1648 yards, 56% completions, 7 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. Those numbers against the vaunted ACC? Not a very good player. He lost his starting job. He did have a very good 1st year but I think coaches figured out how to defend him.

Correct. Kid was a stud his freshmen year and everyone was very high on him. People were touting him as one of the best QB's in the country and than Edsall came to Maryland and he was terrible last year.

I'm guessing his line of thinking is, why go to Wisconsin as a freshman when they are just going to recruit a high profile transfer QB to play in front of you. It makes sense and I would tend to agree with him.
Is it really that much different from bringing in a Juco? Should Rudock be upset that Iowa brought in Sokol?

I think the rule is stupid. If a school is willing to commit 3 or 4 years of scholarhsip to you, you should commit to them as long as you can, if it is the 5th year or 4th like in O'Brien's case. If you choose to leave it should require that you sit one more year, even if you are goingto be in your 5th year. If you want to transfer to take grad school classes fine, but you have to pay for the off year yourself and go to school, and sit on the bench then you can get your 5th year scholly and play the following year. To me that is fair.

Yeah nice strategy for Bielema ... I think the transfer gets them at least two more wins than they would have previously had -- considering the cupboard is pretty bare right now when it comes to any experienced qbs. At some point, he may need to actually coach and develop his own qb again :) ... But hey, can't fault the guy. Russell Wilson made Wisky last season. Wisky had talent but Wilson single-handedly provided Wisky with an extra three or four wins ... at a minimum ... Hey, if Iowa had the chance to do the same and bring in a veteran qb who has faced tough competition ... I say why not? If he is fun to watch and can add value to the team ... then go for it ... Not exactly a coaching philosophy or approach you want to depend on but if the chance comes along ... well .. let the best man win ...

Wisconsin didnt have a choice this year. Outside of Obrien now, they dont have a legitimate D1 quarterback thats healthy. Obrien is no Russel Wilson either, but he can probably be servicable, their other qb's wouldnt even be servicable. They lucked out with Wilson big time keeping him healthy all year as well. Lighting in a bottle.
