Wisconsin Over Rated?

I"d be interested to see SOS of the new top 4.

This is what Sagarin has:

1 LSU ( 13)
2 Alabama ( 35)
3 Oklahoma State ( 9)
4 Boise State ( 31)
5 Oregon ( 30)
6 Texas A&M ( 3)
7 Oklahoma ( 15)
8 Kansas State ( 29)
9 Clemson ( 44)
10 Stanford ( 92)

SOS rank in parentheses

Wisky = 108
Iowa = 118 :eek:

And an 8-10 spot drop for a miracle loss seems a bit harsh

Sagarin gets a little funky after the first 40 spots or so; he has Wofford ranked ahead of Iowa. I'm assuming quirks like that are also reflected in the SOS ratings. If I can find some SOS rankings that look a little more intuitive I will post them.

over rated, no. Like others have mentioned, even the national title game includes two teams that had narrow escapes during the year. Takes a little luck to go undefeated. They got beat on the road by a hail mary play against a top 15 team. This is what makes college football so great.

Wisconsin plays in an extremely hostile environment and loses on the last play to a very solid, top 20 team. Now we all ask if they are over rated? Meanwhile, Boise State has effectively ended their competitive season in early September and no mention of them beating a very mediocre Air Force, a team Notre Dame destroyed two weeks ago, by onlye 27-16 at home.

The point is teams like Wisconsin slip up against a quality opponent and end up on the outside looking in while the Broncos waltz toward an undefeated season and a possible national championship game. It makes no sense.

I think Wisky is still a top 10 team. Yes, they have played a somewhat soft schedule but they are a good team. The game at MSU does not change my opinion of them. Without Russell ... Wisky is an above-average team. He really is a nice quarterback and makes them a much better team than they would have been had they had to go with a different quarterback this season.

I don't think Wisconsin is/was overrated. I do think Michigan State is underrated. The Notre Dame team that beat them is better than their record indicates.

Wisconsin is a good team, just not the NC team they thought they(their fans, coaches etc.) were. Playing in a hostile enviorment in the B10 is not easy no matter who the team is. Wisconsin still has two maybe three tough games remaining with Illinois, Ohio State away and Penn State at home. They could lose at least one more game and the trip to Indianapolis.

They are a good football team but many teams would be undefeated at 6-0 if they had played every game at home and had played pretty weak teams (except NE). Little tougher on road and when the teams get a tougher. So how good ARE they really?

That was my point exactly. I'm not saying they aren't good, they are very good, but are they anywhere as good as where they were ranked? As the season plays on, we'll see where they end up.

Wisconsin is not a top 10 team, top 20, sure, but not top ten. Their defense is pretty bad. MSU is borderline top 10, but their O is pretty poor. They'd get slapped by Bama, LSU, or a couple of the Big 12 teams.

Overrated is based on perception, so it's different for everyone.

IMO, they're definitely a team that is inflated by their soft schedule. It's tough to gather too much info when they spent most of their season beating cupcakes at home so far. Maybe they are good, but those blowouts told us nothing.

On the aggregate level, we still just don't know. They've only played two decent teams and they're 1-1. They'll have more tough games this year, so we'll see.
