Iowa playing NBA defense.
Without the talent.
Too funny. Can you imagine some new rookie going up to play defense against the top players in the NBA and God forbid if they knock one of them down and injury them trying to play defense??? I hope they enjoy washing cars at some car wash for the rest of their lives.
Fran is preparing his players for NBA type defense. He is way ahead of all the other college basketball coaches, lol.
Now I remember the Commings era in football and the Lickliter era in basketball, so no one needs to try to tell me what misery is. Been there, done that.
I know fans were calling for Mr. Davis's head because they wanted more even though Tom's was a good coach. Tom was getting old and may have slipped a notch or two, but he was still head and shoulders above Alford and Lickliter.
Still, fans should never be asked to give up hope for better. You never know what can happen with new blood or having a new coach that wants to prove himself and is hungry. Sure, we could go through another Commings or Lickliter but that just part of life. As a Scout Master several times I had to get the boys to realize life is not a campground, SO BREAK CAMP! Growth comes though experiencing highs and lows.
Where people lose is when they Sur come and just give up and believe that the sports program that they follow just isn't good enough to ever make it to the peak of the mountain. Once a fan base has that mindset then the coaches of such programs get cozy and just put out enough effort to maintain or set things on cruise control. Setting the speedometer at 62 mph in a 70 mph zone. Hell, even Iowa State, BYU, and Indiana drive at least 65 mph once in a while.
Fran has a good offensive mind and teaches it well, but his ability to get his player to play defense is just GOD AWEFUL. Ironically, Kirk has just the opposite problem. So, the obvious question is what are either one of them doing about changing things??? Picking up their damn checks every year IS NOT an answer. Life is not a campground; they both need to BREAK CAMP or get the hell out of boy scouts.
They both have great things that I like about both of them. Come on fella's attack the weaknesses in your programs. Neither one of you have anything to lose at this point. You both have more money than you will ever need to spend. Go for the peaks.
