Damn! That's Chris Kingsbury range!Yikes
Missed it getting carry out supper. That wasn't their regular kicker if I recall correctly. That was their man who handles kickoffs, and was booming them into the band section two weeks ago.Yikes

If you had Manute Bol back there, could he try to block it before it slid through the uprights?ICYM ...

I think it is legal. My guess is you have to be established in bounds so you don't get illegal touching, but other than that, it should be live.Seriously, could that be legal? Have a guy back that could jump up to catch to try to receive it?

Nope.Seriously, could that be legal? Have a guy back that could jump up to catch to try to receive it?
Nope.
NFL has goaltending too.
You could catch it and return it if you could jump high enough, but you can't bat it.
I just found it.Are you sure college has that? I read the entirety of the NCAA rules on FGs after our near catastrophe against UNI in 2009 and I don't recall seeing that in there.
I just found it.
NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations Manual, page FI-72:
Approved ruling 9-4-1
Batting a Loose Ball--Article 1:
I. Team A attempts a field goal from Team B's 30-yard line. A Team B player in the end zone leaps above the crossbar and bats the ball in flight. The ball goes into the end zone and is recovered by Team A. RULING: Foul for batting the ball in the end zone. The result of the play is a touchdown.
Not only is it a foul, it's a Team A touchdown. Not even worth the risk of trying to catch it and dropping it.
I misinterpreted it. The TD is only if the kicking team recovers. For the defense it'd be the same penalty as batting the ball.Holy shit. We need to just start kicking it when we get to the 45 and hope that a team with a return guy back there accidentally touches it above the crossbar. We would probably double our TD production each week.

It would be legal. What about actually catching it above the crossbar? Gotta believe THAT is legal...
