Winning at East Lansing

There seems to be a bit of fear about playing Michigan State on the road.

While it's true Iowa hasn't won there since 1995, that's not as big a deal as it sounds - it's only a losing streak of 4 actual road games - here are the details:

We lost there 49-3 in 1999, which was during Iowa's 1-10 season.

We lost there 31-28 in 2001, which was during Iowa's turnaround 7-5 season.

We lost there 20-10 in 2003, because we had 4 turnovers and 10 penalties.

We lost there 16-13 last year, and that was before Iowa really found it's stride.

Michigan State is not some unbeatable juggernaut at home. They're 36-25 at home this decade, and they haven't gone unbeaten at home since 1999. They already lost to Central Michigan at home this year.

Sparty has won 3 games in a row:

OT over Michigan, and 10 point wins over Illinois and Northwestern.

Excuse me while I quiver in fear over that amazing 3-game winning streak.

Iowa is the better team, and so long as we show up with our normal performance, we should win.

My call: Iowa 24, MSU 13

Also last year we had two turnovers in the redzone that would have resulted in probably at least 6 points in a 3 point loss.

Obviously it is not an impossible task, but winning on the road is never easy. Plus, we never know which team is going to show up, Penn St. Iowa or Ark. St. Iowa.

I understand the uneasiness as well as the confidence.
