Willies

Driving home from the game yesterday and listening to the post game show, Dolphin mentioned that the Hawks were down a receiver with Willies leaving the team to tend to his ailing father. Dolphin mentioned that he hopes Willies gets back to the team sooner rather than later.

I found this interesting, as I thought it was all but a done deal that Willies was gone. Is there a good chance he returns, or is this just Dolphin misspeaking?

I haven't heard anything about him returning. I hope he didn't read this board if he is thinking about reurning. If he is thinking of returning and he read here or other boards he would have to be a forgiving person.

I thought KF said something to the effect that the door was open for a return but he didn't feel it was likely. With CJ's comments after it became known, I'd find it hard to believe, unless DW does a gigantic mea culpa.

If it is truly a health issue with his Dad I hope there is a chance we see him come back. People take leaves of absence all the time to tend to personal or family issues, nothing wrong with that.

Since Dolph never misspeaks im gunna just assume he's coming back.

Correct if I am wrong but I thought KF had said on the Wednesday night deal that he had spoken to Willies and that 'door had been closed'. Was Dolph not present and heard that because I thought he was? I was also shocked then when Dolph said that on the post game. Unless something has changed? That would be a huge get.

Speaking of Dolph... I am so sick and tired of his shtick. How can we not get rid of him and bring someone else in who is more credible, competent and entertaining? I just about threw up when he used his go to line with 'old buddy boy'. Seriously is he broadcasting for the nursing homes across Iowa? I would much rather hear from Brett Balbinot (however you spell it) who you hear on the women's bball games. That guy at least can connect with an audience and has some spunk.

I think we saw what happened when the tumor was removed from the team, seems like a good thing that he's gone

I don't know what happened with Willies, but unless there is confirmation that he left for something other than being closer to an ailing family member, I would welcome him back.

I very much doubt a RS freshman that had limited roll in the offense, for whatever reason, was a "cancer"

Willies, get things in order, and come on back.

CJ's interview is pretty hard to refute. CJ stated that he believed he and Willies were "close" in describing their friendship. CJ also said playing time was a factor. I don't see how this could be taken out of context, so, my feeling is it's a done deal. Too bad, DW was one of my favorite youngsters. If he comes back, then let bygones be bygones. But I don't think coaches can really allow it at any program.

i agree. It is what i had been hearing about Willis as well.

And who did you and HawkeyeMike hear this from that Willies was a cancer on the team??

Is this really first hand knowledge or from someone's uncle's buddie's son who is a frosh at Iowa who heard it from some girl who sits 3 rows behind Willies in Sociology

I guess my thought process is to be concerned ... And to focus... On the players on the field. Per Kirk's call in show it sounded like the kid is not coming. Wish him well. Whatever his reasons, he made his decision.

I kind of figured someone would say he was a cancer, as we won in blowout fashion.....much like da "haters" would have told us others don't want to play on this team and that is obvious if we would have lost to jNW......Like I said, it is all politics around here, and pushing the agenda of "your" side.

I would call it an opinion, but I heard it from 2 completely different sources within the football team. I am not going to share the exact words they chose to describe him. No way I'm sharing these 2 names. So summarize it:freak athlete, unbelievable talent, uncoachable and the last while was late to everything. He is not coming back.

Did you guys hear about the time he took his helmet off during practice and started hitting a DB with it?

haven't heard any rumors. but i wouldn't doubt anything. I think he'll have a tough go of it - as I have surmised prior - feel bad for the kid - hasn't had great leadership the majority of his life.
