Will we become the Cyclones before we make the hard decisions?

I keep reading posts claiming that any program that hires a new coach has a greater chance of moving downward than upward. Do you have to be a zero-win program before you can move on making a change?

The crazy thing is Clone fans are actually happy with their season, they beat Iowa and they think they have a better OC coordinator in Mangino even though he is just as bad as the guy he replaced.

Not sure, I saw a fb post of someone there and I swear that place was filled with not a hot dog vendor more than 8,000 people. That's including the ambulance driver and all media in the press box. Holy smokes I assumed they sent home 3/4 of their concession staff durning the first quarter.

What do you mean will we be the cyclones? If we played they schedule this year, where are our wins?
They've beaten Kirk 9/16 seasons. We're lucky to be in the cupcake 10.

It's not much of a surprise they have success against us. Rhodes gameplans all offseason for the Iowa game, he knows as long as he wins that game their dumb fanbase will eat it up and be satisfied no matter what else happens the rest of the year.

If the B1G this year was a normal B1G, Iowa would probably have 3 or 4 wins. Kurt lucked out with the weak schedule.

Maybe there is a statistician out there that can shed some light on this but isn't there an equal chance that a new hire will - at some point - move a program upward instead of downward?

There is actually very little chance we could do worse than Ferentz, very few competent coaches could win less than the 6/7 wins Ferentz has been getting for the last ten years when you consider the easy out of conference schedule we play and the weak division we are locked into.

Every year we are locked into, either a 1aa caliber and a Mac level team, or 2 Macs, the worst major program in the country in ISU, NW, Purdue and Minnesota.

That's about as easy as it gets.

Considering the amount of money Iowa is capable of paying youd have to do something completely bizar to get a guy who could produce less wins against those teams.

I would say the odds are about even you get someone who can do better or at worst someone who does about the same.

There is no reason whatsoever to continue to accept mediocre irrelevance without attempting to improve.

Its past time to do something different.

My god...think about that. Iowa State is ranked as the 17th worst football program in the HISTORY of college football and we are 7 - 9 against them with KF at the helm. I'm not sure that's easily explained or worth the time to figure it out.

Ordinarily I would agree, but if GB is doing the HC hiring, our chances of getting a quality coach may be something less than 50/50. ;-)

I'd say odds are worse than 50/50 if he choses someone. They are better than 50/50 if he draws names from a hat.

You really have to try to do as bad as Kirk has. How many games the last 10 years have we walked away from a game thinking "wow we really stole one there"? Now how many times have we lost games where we controlled the whole game, looked like the better team by far, sat on a lead, and lost to 2 4th quarter scores?

Well I guess we do have to admit the Debby AD already thinks we ARE the Cyclones. So your point is well taken.

I remember 1997, when we played Tulsa, were ranked in the top 10, and then saw Andy Katzenmoyer in our backfield, as much as our running backs. The criticism was the weak out-of-conference not preparing us for Big Ten play.

11 of the 16 seasons, Kirk has had 5 or more losses/year. (2002, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009 being the exception).
This is coupled with some of the easiest out-of-conference schedules, year in and year out.
In 2006 and 2007, we didn't play Ohio State or Michigan.
This year, we didn't play a ranked team the first 10 games on our schedule.

Please, the Big12 wasn't that good this year. They have 5 teams above .500

Baylor, K-State, TCU = 3 losses (just like Wisconsin, Minny, and Nebraska)
Oklahoma 8-3 = Maryland 7-5
West Virginia 7-5 = Pittsburg 6-6
Texas 6-6 = Illinois 6-6
Okie St. 5-6 = jNW 5-7
Texas Tech 4-8 Indiana 4-8
Kansas 3-9 = Purdue 3-9

Iowa probably has the exact same # of wins playing the ISU schedule. The Big12 was not that good this year after the top 3 or 4.

$ will force a change, nothing else. Not losing or character issues, cold hard cash.

How can Barta lack the foresight to grasp that poor results will eventually alter the bottom line and once you lose it it's twice as hard to earn it back.

It makes all the sense in the world to do it now.
