Doable, but I don't think it's terribly likely. There are a lot of tough games left on our schedule, and it won't shock me if we end up losing more than 3 more in the regular season.
Remarkable thing about the 1987 team is that they won 30 games without the benefit of a conference tournament, and played 18 conference games, same as we do now. That team was 27-4 in the regular season. Awesome. 28-3 probably would've gotten them a #1 seed. I tend to think of that home loss to OSU as the one that really cost them.
As good as this year's team is, they can only lose one more game if they want to match the loss total for the 1987 regular season. Not happening (at least, I'd be willing to wager on it).
Yeah, that 1987 team was the best Iowa team I've seen in my lifetime, including this year. That said, this year's team is capable of matching and possibly exceeding the Elite 8 achieved by the 1987 squad. So in the end, it's what this team does in March that really matters to me.
