Will Know A LOT after saturday night

Coaches & fans will learn a lot after Iowa's match-up with AZ Saturday night. Embarking on a trip out west & playing a 9:30 pm central time game will really show how tough this Iowa team really is. It is well known that Iowa is a physically tough team & likes to wear their opponents down, but this will be a precursor on how mentally tough the Iowa team is.

This game will show if the coaches have this teamed focussed & tuned in to what they have to do. This game will show if all the national hype has gone to Iowa's head or being distracted secondary to the obstacles they will encounter with a time change & late start. If KF & co have this team focussed & they get their business done, this could be a real positive sign for the rest of the season. If Iowa is successful, this kind of game can really toughen them up & pay big dividends the rest of the season.

We will know how focussed they are by watching the penalty count for Iowa. If Iowa commits an unusual amount of penalties, we will know that they were not "mentally there".

Totally agree that the measuring stick for mental preparedness on Saturday will be penalties. However, we are talking about a veteran team with an outstanding track record. You don't win at PSU or MSU last year and take tOSU to OT without mental toughness.

As we've talked on here all week KF doesn't/won't make the same mistakes. The Hawks will be ready.

I think this is spot on. Iowa has done exactly as it's needed to against inferior opponents, but we still don't know who they are. Last year's team seemed to thrive against adversity, so we'll soon see if this team can do the same.

Yea, my thread was completely aimed at seeing how they handle the adversity with the time change. We all know KF & staff do a great job of learning from past experiences. I watched enough college football to learn that it does not take much at times to throw a teams chemistry off, especially with young men. KF does not like the west coast games so it will be interesting to see how much he gets the team dialed-in. I think he will & I think this team is REAL focussed.

The whole west coast time change really adds to the mystique of this game. This is what college f-ball is about & I am really excited for Sat. night!

He's talked to experts about how best to handle it and they're prepared for it. Captain Kirk tells me their not worried about it, I'm not going to worry about it.

He was worried about it enough to consult experts. I just remember him stating in the past they didn't handle it too well in 2004 against AZ St. He's not changing anything most likely to keep the team in their same routine, relatively speaking. He did mention they thought about going out on Thursday but wanted to keep with the same schedule.

I'm not worried about it either. The time change is just another wrench thrown into this particular game & makes it interesting.

I mostly want Iowa to hand it to all the "big 10 is slow, pac 10 is fast" hype. Not that it will ever keep people from saying that

if, that's IF the Hawks can steamroll Arizona, they should be in the top 5

even if we lose, so long as it is close, I don't think it hurts us much
