Will KF remain conservative the rest of the way??

That's the only thing I see keeping us from a west title

Depends on how the games go, if the offensive line blocks anyone, if the defense can stop anyone, if the wind is strong, if the team is on the road, if the referees are calling everything....

Come on now! This is the new Kirk. The old Kirk would have tried to win 7-6. :)

It was ugly but it was a win. My sympathies and apologies to the advertisers that ran ads on ESPN.

Now so far Kirk has made some dramatic changes , and we will see ONE GAME AT A TIME , our fans will speak up if he regresses

Going for it on fourth down on your own 26 isn't old Kirk by a long shot.

Iowa didn't go conservative, it made no sense to try many deep routes because 1. zero separation and 2. zero time.

Um, he went for a fourth down in the first half that cost three points, then went for a sneak and the quarterback fumbled on the next play. If Tevaun Smith is in the game maybe they take more chances or catch some deep balls but nobody was getting any separation and MVB is the only guy with reliable hands who is on the same page as CJB.

Hindsight is always 20/20. If Iowa had converted that 4th down, we would all be talking about what a gutsy, aggressive call it was. It could have resulted in a touchdown.

That was a big risk, big reward type of play call on the road against a tough defense. Iowa was handicapped offensively without Boone Myers, and as the game went on his absence was definitely felt... much more so than Tevaun Smith.

I liked the play call.

Going for it on that fourth down was un-Kirk like but Wisconsin's weak offense and our struggling offense probably contributed to that decision. I am glad he did it but the fumble by CJ shouldn't have happened. The was a freshman like mistake carry that ball like a meatloaf. A lesson learned for him to be sure.

Just happy for the win!

I think he is trending back toward conservatism. Sadly today's win will likely convince him he is heading in the right direction.

Schobert was in the backfield all day....we were missing our starting LT and starting WR, not to mention our best TE is still trying to come back from shredding his patellar tendon....and there was a 30 MPH wind.....what would you have him do? A double reverse QB throwback? We beat a ranked team, on the road, down 4 starters.

Maybe I was watching a different game but I thought Cole Croston did alright for himself in replacing Boone Myers. #58 had 3 sacks but weren't two of those up the middle?? I don't recall CJ getting blindsided due to breakdown in left tackle play. I thought the interior of the O-line did a poor job against the blitz, and the OC in calling such slow developing plays/routes.

Where were quick passes to Canzeri?? And quick/short passes to the TE's? Where were the TE's today?

Regardless a huge win for the Hawks. I felt we really were the more physical team. Especially on D. And tough running by Canzeri. Did any of us see this coming into the season. He deserves to stay healthy and deserving of a monster season.

Take care of the Illinois next week and sets up a big game against the Cats.

I guess we'll find out in the Illinois game if there is a trend. I think he's naturally conservative and he feels uncomfortable whenever he leaves that zone. Hope I'm wrong but playing not-to-lose has been good to him in the past, and it might prove to tempting to resist now that he is basically guaranteed a bowl game.

Please define conservative. Cause I think there might be varying definitions.

Not airing it out in 30mph winds against a good defense isn't being conservative.

I wasn't super pumped about the playcalling today, but it had nothing to do with being too conservative.

HUH?! I'm the first in line and last to leave when it comes to heckling derKirkFer going fetal but I am loving this crazy bastard they call "NewKirk"! Going fer it on 4th and 2, down 3 on the road, is as stupid ballsy as it gets. This guy is like a freakin machine with one code of s c r i p t that says, "PLAY TO WIN, ALL THE TIME, AT ALL COSTS".

If he's "conservative", I'm voting Republican.:D
