Will Iowa get sued...?

I couldn't decide if he was a troll or a complete idiot.

Not a troll at all.. A legit question... There are some very unhappy parents. You are naive to think this is not a MAJOR concern of the U. You people are very ignorant I must say.

It's time to sue the lawyers and media.

But, that won't happen because the lawyers and media have control over everyone else.

We are ignorant? It was you who posted the same question in two different posts started at nearly the same time.

How does underage drinking affect their lawsuits?

Negligence - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Duty of Care

Breach of duty

causation

damages

I think the big hurdle in a lawsuit would be damages. The medical bills are all being paid for. So they'd have to prove that there will be long term problems. There are no punitive damages in negligence lawsuits.

i agree. expect a lawsuit from a kid if he is damaged long-term and has his career ended and has to leave the team. do you think iowa would roll over if the kid was out drinking prior to this? how about non-authorized supplements? i.e. lots of facts that we have no idea about, yet head are a rollin'.

They could be sued for emotional distress, any physical ailments... Really a whole host of things.

you are a clown.

anyone can sue anyone for anything with a $50 filing fee.

step back and think about what you are saying. are you saying these guys are going to give up their football, their career, for an emotional distress lawsuit?

If they end up permanently losing 30% of their kidney function (or whatever the number was), their parents and their parents' lawyers might persuade them to do so. Think about it...how many of these guys are going to have a CAREER in football (as you suggest)? A settlement from a moneymaking athletic department at a state university is a pretty good chunk of change for some of these guys.

I'd actually be surprised if nobody sued. Let's say they lose 30% of their kidney function. Now they have to prove the value of that damage.

That's not even mentioning the fact that by them suing it subjects them to discovery.

Anyway, if a lawsuit is filed I doubt it gets to trial because I think the last thing the U of I wants is a trial against a former player.

I don't disagree. I didn't say the plaintiffs would win, only that they'd sue. That was the original question.
