Will Beathard have a big season?

It seems like CJ Beathard has been gradually building towards a potential record breaking season for the last 4 years.

Is he poised to go out in a story book ending like Chuck Long's last season?

Or will he be like Stanzi and have great stats but not as many wins

OR will he be like JVB and severely regress his senior season?

I have seen the early Heisman favorite lists and CJB is not on any of them. I agree he is not going to win the Heisman, but I think he will have a big season and Iowa will too. Not 12-0, but still something pretty good like 10-2 There are still plenty of players around that remember Iowa's mediocre seasons. They will show up with the proper attitude and here is the best part. The coaches will finally open up the offense and Iowa will average over 35 points a games.

Maybe 1,000 yards against Purdue alone if the snow holds off this time and not injured. Will there be more Iowa fans in our most hated rival's stadium than Purdue fans?

That may be true. Of course, an exception was the turning point in the 2010 NW game, when Stanzi tried to go deep and was intercepted. He was essentially going for the kill with a 2 score lead. Then NW ended up scoring twice to come back and win.

Which was the real problem in 2010. Iowa's defense could not make key stops on 3rd and 4th down late in games. Plus Iowa's offense could not put away the other team when it had a lead in the 4th.

In 2010 Iowa's passing defense wasn't very good. They allowed 230.5 passing yards per game. Compared to other defenses under Ferentz this was #14th out of 17 years. They started out fairly well than the linebacker core was decimated through the middle of the season. They ended up playing third string true freshman Morris at middle linebacker along with multiple other backups. They were still pretty stout against the run allowing 101.5 yards per game (ranking 5th of 17 years) and had been stingy against opposing touchdowns early in the season allowing only 17 points per game (ranking #4 in Ferentz tenure)

Iowa's running game also had issues, losing Jewel Hampton in the first half of the Arizona game. Neither Brandon Wegher and Jeff Brinson had stayed with the team after 2009. This left Adam Robinson as the primary running back through the Big ten schedule, until he was knocked out against Ohio State.
