Wildcat Formation

On TOS someone claims there were rumors around campus that Iowa would break out the wildcat formation this weekend with A.J. Derby at QB. I don't believe this claim since Iowa would have to pull the Derby's redshirt but it brings up an interesting conversation if in some alternate reality Ferentz and KOK come up with some sort of wildcat scheme for this weekend. Who would be the best option to run it at QB? The obvious choices seem to be McNutt or DJK. Is there anyone else on the team that would be suited to run it?

Shhhhh, that is supposed to be a secret - wait til CF gets ahold of this. So much for the suprise attack.....

Didn't Derby go in a play or two at TE last week? Are you sure he is red shirted?

85 was Zach Derby I believe that's his older brother. Hmmm Kirk Ferentz and KOK burn AJ's redshirt to run Gadget plays in a Gimmic offence??? Yeah I could see it, we may blitz everyplay, run n gun the rest of the time, and possibily run the score up to 70. That's so Kirk's style, I could see it.

We have like 70 former QBs on this team. Pretty much any one of them would be a better fit than burning Derby's much-needed redshirt.

Not much chance of Iowa running the Wildcat. However, our D-line may make ISU's offense look like the "Cougar" formation.

It has been said that O'Keefe uses the same playbook as the Raiders in Tecmo Bowl, which is a great compliment because that team had Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen and a prolific passing attack, meaning that is a great offense to model your team after. Under that logic, you could ask yourself this: Do the Raiders in Tecmo Bowl run the Wildcat? If the answer is yes, you might see O'Keefe do it, if the answer is no, O'Keefe won't do it. I've never played Tecmo Bowl so I don't know, but I don't recall them ever running Bo in the Wildcat so I would assume the Hawks won't run it either. Hope this helps.

Can you imagine if the Raiders had come up with the Wildcat in the late 80's? If you think its effective in Miami with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, Marcus Allen and Bo Jackson would blow your mind.

dude, I don't think the Raiders ran it, but you could change the playbook in tecmo super bowl and they did have a direct snap to the running back. But I think that was tecmo super bowl super nintendo, post Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen.

I'd use an actual Wildcat. That would be pretty tough to stop.

Dude, those wildcats are tough to tackle. Have you ever tried to tackle a house cat? I bet a wildcat would be like twice as hard to tackle.

BTW i think that was Zach Derby at TE last sat. No one mentioned that yet, right?
