A lot of people I have talked to have WSU losing pretty early. As early as round of the 32 against Kentucky/KSU. Does anybody else think WSU is the real deal? Am I the only one? I have watched them multiple times this year and think they are one of the most complete teams in the nation. Van Vleet, Baker, and Early are a great together. Cotton is a good player as well. I am riding them all the way to the final four because I think they are that good and better than Louisville or Michigan. The reason I like WSU over Louisville is bcuz I think Louisville is inconsistent and struggles to score sometimes. They have no game outside of 15ft besides Hancock.

Thoughts?

I picked them to get to the finals. It was a toss up in that bracket but i figured whomever comes out of that region will be battle tested.

I think the problem alot of us have with Wichita State is that we know they have talent, but how much talent is still a question. Based on who they've played, IMO its hard to predict how they'd do against top opposition because they've seen very little of it. That was why I couldn't put them in the final 4 because that would mean playing 3 consecutive opponents that are questionably better then anyone they've seen this year once they get past there opening game.

I think it isn't that they aren't the real deal but more the gauntlet they have to go through. They haven't been tested like this and most teams haven't. If they can get through it without a loss I will be thoroughly impressed. I don't think any of the one seeds would make it through that 1/4 of the bracket except maybe Florida.

They haven't played an NCAA team since the non conference and those they did play weren't special. I don't question their talent. I have zero faith in their ability to take their game up the 3 or 4 notches necessary to go very far in the tournament. No team is going to look past them when they're a 1 seed...so they get everyone's best shot.

I am not a believer. They havent played anyone with equal to more talent than them all year. After their first game every game they have left they will play a team that has been battle tested, has athletic and talented players. They aren't a 9 see this year; I would be surprised to see them get past the round of 16. The last decent team they played was before Christmas. The tourney teams they have wins over are Tulsa, Tenn, BYU and Stl. Tulsa and Tenn were not playing well at the beginning of the year

Even more than a 1 seed...an undefeated team. Every team wants to be the one that broke their streak.

Wasnt Hancock the MVP of the Final Four? I think Lousiville has all the pieces.
Elite 4/5
Elite 1
Elite 2

They shocked the world last year, pun intended, and with that success plus their undefeated record they aren't going to sneak up on anyone. Not that they need to, they're that good, but teams will certainly be bettered prepared for them.

They have the most brutal bracket this year, I almost feel bad for them since there was literally nothing more they could do to improve their resume.

As of right now I picked them to lose to Kentucky. I'm not so sure it will happen, but I don't think they'll beat Louisville so I went for an earlier upset than that, and I think a Calipari/Pitino game would make the tv gods wet their pants.

One thing I try not to do with my tournament picks is get too swept up in "what everyone else" is picking. Just like New Mexico last year.. Everybody was saying "Final Four" for them last year, and was glad I listened to my own instincts and had them losing in the second round (round of 32). It's my general rule of thumb not to pick 1st round upsets in the Top 3 or 4 seeds, as I'm usually wrong in which ones I pick..

Although I do have WSU losing to Louisville in the Sweet 16. They could potentially go down against UK/K-State.

This is my approach as well.

Wichita State is a tough one for me. It's hard to deny their tournament resume since they are undefeated and went to the final 4 last year. Where it gets interesting though is when you start talking about how they haven't played the same type of schedule as a B1G, Big XII, ACC, or Big East team. The second highest MVC team in the Sagarin rankings is UNI at 100. In the 4 other conferences I mentioned the B1G, Big XII, and Big East each have 1 team ranked lower than 100, the ACC has 4 of them. 4? Really ACC? So night in and night out the teams from those conferences have to fight, especially in the B1G, which was the only conference where every team had at least 5 conference wins. So you could say that Wichita State hasn't been really tested at all in the past couple months and may not be able to turn it up when they face K-State or Kentucky. At the same time, they shouldn't be as battered and bruised as a team that has had to fight night in and night out.

Wichita State has 4 players averaging over 27 minutes a game while Kentucky has 4 players averaging 31 minutes a night.

I don't know. They're the New Mexico of this year. Meaning they could go for a long run, or an early exit in their second game. It'll be interesting to see what they do.

I have Iowa beating them in the elite 8. I have been look forward to getting revenge on them since last year. Iowa was close last year, but this time they do it! On to the final 4 Hawkeyes!

Just for the record, the ALFRAUD coached New Mexico team lost to 14th seeded Harvard last year in the first round. And Harvard has ZERO scholarship players. He then fell upwards into the UCLA job. I have UCLA losing to Tulsa in the first round this year. The Fraud is great for my bracket every year.
