Why we lost to Indiana in the tournament

I rewatched the entire game last night in slow-motion (extremely painful)
here are just a few thoughts what do you think?
In the first half Iowa's defense was below average but Bohannons 3 points and excellent play by Moss kept us in the game.
The real fun started the second half.
If you watch the first few min Iowa came out fighting very hard.
There is a segment where Jok played the best defense I have ever seen him play his hands were so active.(go back and watch you will be blown away)
Indiana was uptempo the game and Iowa matched it.
After about two min you could see Jok and Bohannon were exhausted. At this point a great screen was set and Jok had an open look for a 3 and came up short. His exhaustion was showing. If i was coaching I would of pulled Jok out and Jordan and put in williamson and Uhl both great defensive players and tell them to up the physicality and foul if necessary to take Indiana out of their game. This would have given the rest Jok and Jordan needed while Indiana's starters would be subjected to a more physical game by Iowa.
Instead not even a time out was called. Indiana got a steal and Bohannon chased downcourt and faked a foul where he didn't even touch the Indiana player yet foul called anyway. That was the turning point of the game.
Indiana's guards could not miss so Iowa should have changed the tempo of the game and call timeouts earlier.
Jok should have been pulled out as he was exhausted. bear was having a terrible game yet Kreiner was having a great defensive game why not pull out Bear much earlier in the second half and use Kreiner to play physical defense?
Finally if you go back and watch when Jok was finally taken out. The play is stopped the official turns away and as Jok is walking towards the bench the Indiana player just lowers his shoulder and pops Jok. How is that not a technical?
Even the commentator said "the timeout should have been called several possessions ago" after Iowa finally called a timeout.
Iowa up to this point had done a great job of playing a lot of players to wear down opposition why change what was working?

What do you guys think?

Time outs are over-rated.

Yep and like Dakich said in 2nd half Fran was way late in calling that Timeout by like 3 or 4 possessions. Indiana was starting to pull away and the Momentum was clearing going to Indiana. One of the BIGGEST Fran downfalls is using Timeouts been a problem since he arrived..I've still not yet seen a coach that's so poor in using one of the BASIC tools provided to him!!

I look at it when your loosing its always a combination of what we are doing wrong and what the other team is doing right. At that point in the game I thought our defense wasn't its greatest yet some of that i felt was our guards were getting tired. We also could not get a rebound. I think the solution wasn't necessarily just a time out but to sub. Sometimes its not just exhaustion it also could be favorable match ups helping the opposing team. On other hand Indiana was playing great especially shooting the three. So stop that part of the game even if it means fouling. i forgot which game it was but remember when fran took out all the starters in the beginning of the game. that completely changed the momentum. Its not just a matter of our players, Indiana's entire defense was designed to stop Jok so when Indiana's on a run take him out, that alone would have changed the game it creates confusion.

I realize i am being an armchair coach and i have know doubt the coaches have much better insight. I do wonder if they go back and watch the game from a coaching standpoint to see what could have been done better. I know they go back from the player standpoint to correct players

Fran likes to run and no doubt felt comfortable with that tempo but I agree we needed to change things up and take them out of their flow. Slow the game down and make it more physical as suggested. Crean flat out-coached Fran and maybe saved his job in the process.

Indiana is a better team and more experienced, plus, if they shoot three pointers the way Iowa allowed it, mostly free looks...Iowa has a 2 in 10 chance to beat them.

Bohannon needs an elite PG on the team...so he isn't exhausted and so he can rest a bit while splitting PG and off guard with a real PG... CW brings little to the team...no scoring threat, can't finish, unable to beat opponent off the dribble. Still at zero blocks for the season, last I looked.

Iowa will be better without Jok...which doesn't mean he is a bad person.

There you have it...

I thought the game was decided in the first half. Iowa had multiple opportunities to build a lead going into half time. Instead they turned the ball over too many times. Iowa fell behind and limped to within four at halftime. Things started to seem better when they pulled ahead at 44 to 43. Unfortunately it was the beginning of the end. Cook, Pemsl, Kreiner, and Uhl were unable to score low because of Indiana defense. Iowa went scoreless for a long period and resorted to three point shots when they went down double digits. Indiana gained confidence in that first half after falling behind.
