Why was Tristan Wirfs not an Outland Trophy finalist?

I know what my eyes see as well, and I think they are pretty good at pass protection. I trust my eyes and objective data more than your eyes, but go on and believe what you want.

edit: I should add, they were really bad vs. Michigan and PSU (injuries a huge part of that, but also some scheme issues). They made schematic changes after that point. They had given up 16 sacks in 6 games to that point (8 vs. Mich). From that point on, they gave up 7 sacks in 7 games.

So over the last 7 games, they were sacked 7 times, and they had 241 pass attempts. Pass attempts isn't exactly the same as "dropbacks", but it is pretty darn close, so that gives them a sack rate of 2.9% over the lat 7 games. That would rank in the top-5 nationally.

Just an opinion, but I think teams dared Stanley to throw.

Knowing what we know, if I were an opposing coach, yes I would bring pressure. Nate has some accuracy issues at times and I am sure the stats would show that accuracy goes down greatly when he is under pressure.

And much of that pressure was in the interior.
This is the point I was going to make as well. Pretty much the entire season the vast majority of the protection issues were our guards, which were borderline terrible at times.

Anybody with good firsthand knowledge of CFB - and any sense - is aware that Wirfs is an outstanding prospect, regardless of what team statistics reveal.

I know he was pretty bad under pressure situations coming into the year. I bet he was improved this year, but I am not sure how much.
