...into the Iowa huddle in one of the late TO's?
+1, loved the crowds reaction when Harris bumped him and Eddy went flying. He has to be be ready to retire and he will not be missed.I think he was warning Gatens about slamming the ball, which he was thrilled about because he knew he would get the zoom-in from the camera. Hightower might make my top 10 for people I want to punch in the face.
So what shoud have been done? What was frustrating is that Iowa took a timeout to set up an offensive set out of the timeout. It was 30 sec timeout. Hightower WASTED 20 secs of it talking to the Iowa huddle. No play was setup, no set play was run. It was ridiculous.

But he's Ed Hightower, the dean of officials. He deserves our respect and admiration for several reasons: his perfect hairline, his last name, and his masterful control of whatever game he officiates.
You at least have to admire the guy for what he does. He calls 'em the way he wants to call 'em.
This is Lick's fault not Hightower, Lick could have told him to wait until after the timeout. Yes the idiot Hightower should have waited or just gave a simple 2 second warning about slamming the ball down, but on the other hand Lick also has a responsibility to his team and not the offical and could have made the official wait.
Have you ever seen a coach get a word in edgewise when Eddie is on a mission? Good luck w that.
That was bad officiating. I don't mind his grandstanding, but when he takes up a team's timeout just to make sure everyone and his mother have heard his unnecessary warning, that's ridiculous.
Not that anyone needs another example, but a classic Hightower grandstanding move occurred late in the game when there was a debatable OOB call that went IOwa's way late in the game, right in front of where the players' families sit. A Michigan player either said something or gave Eddie a look after the call so instead of just making it once he started wildly gesticulating his point toward the Iowa. He obviously takes offense at anyone questioning his infallibility and has to make an even bigger show of the call when that happens.
I'll be happy when the little megalomaniac finally retires, but he'sjust as likely to stroke out while making one of his wild gyrations on a call to draw attention to himself.
I understand that he's a school administrator by day. That figures. ;-)
