Why this team is dramatically better next year

I am looking to be relevant and competitive next year. If that translates to wins, so be it.

What I want is to honestly believe that we have a chance in every game. If I don't believe that, I am done with lick

Edit: I am not a lick lover, I wouldn't shed a tear if he were fired this year. My point is the team will be better next year and that will be a more honest indictment of him as a coach.

Sadly this is what i was saying last year as we went through a miserable season....unfortunately, player defections took any chance of that happening away

This is a theory and a theory only... and while I think it is true, I am not sure it translates into wins. What it does do, is translates into a dramatically more competitive team.

Right now, we don't have enough players to even have a competitive practice.

With the four recruits we have coming in next year, plus Archie we have the following:

Payne
Tucker
Gatens
Fuller
Cole
May
Cougil
Brommer

Archie
Brust
Marble
McCabe
Larson

The last five replace...

Bawinkle
Lickliter
Nearl? Who the hell is Nearl?

How much better are the practices going to be?
How much faster paced?
How much deeper is our bench in games?

If Tucker comes back, we have a legitimate 12 man rotation... even if McCabe and Larson are a little raw, that is a legit 10 man rotation.

The faster pace will increase the development of Gatens, May, Payne etc...

When you talk about why Lickliter is going to get another year, it isn't because of the recruits on their own, it is because of what having those recruits does to our existing players.

You could have answered your own question with a lot less effort.

The reason why the team will be dramatically better next year.....

.....is because it is tough to be any worse than the team with the worst record in the 110 year history of the program.

Dude you're worse than Soybean was during the Alford era....really.

We get it. What good does it do to be CONSTANTLY negative? I mean CONSTANTLY. The guy that you quote makes a very good point towards what next years class means and all you can say is "well can't be any worse than this year"

And while what you say is true, it has ZERO productivity. Why choose to be this way? I don't get it. It almost seems personal.

Good post. The only small correction I have is Brommer, who won't be here next year. He has 0 minutes in the last 2 games on an 8 - 16 team. He gone.

Go back three years to the day that TL was hired, I made the statement (pp): This is not a good hire, and I hope I am wrong. Coach of the Year or not, I am not a fan of this hire.

So, in essence, I guess it is a bit personal. Unfortunately, I have been right about this. I did not want Iowa to fail, but we have. Miserably. Alford started with the cupboard pretty darn bare, too. And, he had 23 wins in year two.

Here is a positive:

Iowa used to have winning basketball seasons. So, we know it can be done.

Sorry, olivecourt.

You are sorely mistaken if you think McCabe or Larson will redshirt next year. None of that class will be redshirting. I think originally some thought Marble might, as he will have just turned 18 when he starts the fall semester, I believe, but he is blowing up in his senior season and he will not redshirt either.

I would be willing to bet quite a bit on this, if I had quite a bit to bet:)
