Reasons why the Minnesota win was important

  1. Rose to the occasion – conference game on the road
  2. Just 1 penalty
  3. Dominant defense
  4. QB continues to improve – great decisions before snap
  5. Passing game has bona fide playmaker
  6. D-Line showed pass rush
  7. Running game continued with the step up in opponent quality
  8. First 4 win streak since end of 09/10 season.
  9. Full back has soft hands and nifty feet.
  10. Hawks held on to the ball No fumbles

That plays 5 snaps a game.

He's a home run threat each time he's in there. Opposing defenses know that (if they don't, they'll learn quickly), and will have to respect that. When he doesn't get the ball, he'll be a terrific decoy.

Do you have any first hand knowledge of how much of he playbook he knows?

I'm not disputing any of that. He needs to be on the field.

He will get more time but I suspect the blocking isn't there yet. Watch this highlight of Cox catching a pass and keep your eye on CJF and Cotton.

Minnesota vs Iowa Highlight - ESPN Video - ESPN

CJF is a secondary target and as soon as Cox has the ball he breaks off is route and engages a defender. Cotton, who shows great speed btw, breaks out of triple coverage, crosses the field and sets himself up to be a lead blocker.

Had the corner sniffed this one I am pretty sure CJ would have been the target. JR takes what the defense gives him, a wide open Adam Cox who takes it 35 yards.

I suspect we see more of DP Saturday because yards (and points) are going to be a little harder to come by. I think we might see both DP and JC on the field at the same time just running down the field trying to get open. They will probably be decoys/secondary targets just trying to drag some defenders along with them. In the clip note that there are two LBs and corner tcovering Cotton, leaving AC wide open.

The 10 reasons are great.

For me the Minnesota win was huge because it got us 1 step closer to 6 wins. It is very important for this team to get to a bowl and extend the season.

I'll take it a step further and say this game against MSU is a must get to achieve a bowl this season.

Are you kidding me? We are TWO wins away...Purdue is a given, and there will be plenty of other chances to get another one if we somehow blow it against MSU.

The MSU hype on this board is absolutely ridiculous.

You just become a Hawkeye fan? After watching the past couple of years it is hard to imagine any game being a "given".

11. Floyd remains in Iowa City ... where he belongs.

Yep, big win. No doubt about it. Every big ten win is a big win They are right where I predicted they'd be. And I'm still sticking to 5-7. Iowa won't be able to run all over the rest of the schedule.
