Why the constant Rudock loving?

Kid should never have been starting ahead of CJB ... ever
Kid quit on the Hawks

The only thing I was hoping for was Iowa pounding his *** in the B10 confc game

Beathard will play in the NFL ... Jake will be a fine part of the medical community

He's still a hawk, we basically forced him out. Nothing against him, wish him well as long as we don't play him.

He quit. Simple as that.

Exactly!

I was initially supportive of Jake when he transferred. I was surprised that KF let him go to another BIG school, but it didn't appear there would be any chance Iowa would have to compete against him.

Where Jake lost my support is when he was interviewed during Fall Camp at Michigan. He made a comment that he wasn't afraid of some competition at the QB position.

Got me to thinking.... at Michigan he isn't afraid of some competition, but at Iowa he feels he needs to transfer after he was given EVERY OPPORTUNITY to win the position outright? He got the majority of the meaningful snaps in practice, and he was the starting QB in 11/12 regular season games. He had so many more advantages over CJB in 2014, but he tucked his tail and ran when CJB was named the starting QB after the HawkSlayer Bowl. Sounds like an entitled person to me.

IH ... well done senor as forgot about quote - Where Jake lost my support is when he was interviewed during Fall Camp at Michigan ... He made a comment that he wasn't afraid of some competition at the QB position.

SCREW IT ... RUDOCK QUIT AND MISS HIM AS MUCH AS THE LEFT HANDED JAKE

I don't have any ill will against JR, but I also think he quit on the team. He was beat out... it happens. If every player that gets beat out at a position quits, we won't have many players left.

Wish the best for Ruddock, but he is still the same guy we had, same check downs but now he isn't doing it to the 3 yard guy.

He was given every opportunity, he knew that, and he failed to win the job. The competition was over the moment Ferentz released that depth chart. Saying Rudock quit because he transferred after that is like saying the Cubs quit because they stopped playing after the Mets won four games in the NLCS. Rudock went somewhere where there would actually be a competition for the starting job. He wasn't going to get that chance at Iowa this year.

If every incoming senior who has two years of starting experience quit after being beat out, we wouldn't lose many players at all.

I wish JR every success in life and hope he and Michigan win their bowl game where ever that is. He is still a Hawk in my book, however we and him are better off with his transfer.

So he left because he didn't want to compete for the starting job but was ok to compete and take over someone else's job at Mich. and yes it did look like the old Rudock.Thats probably why the coaches decided to go a different direction. No hard feelings for the guy, besides if he would of stayed the media would of talked about it every single day and it would of been a distraction to the team.Go Hawks

He quit. Plain and simple.

At Michigan he doesn't mind competition.

At Iowa, competition was alright so long as he was #1. Once that competition relegated him to #2, he QUIT! That looks entitled and spoiled to me.

Addition by subtraction.

I'm sorry, but I just can't agree with this. Are we to believe that Ferentz forced JR to leave but not Willies? There is a double standard in that position. And this is NOT a Derrick Willies comment, but a comparison to prove a point.

JR could have remained on the team but he chose not to. He is no longer a Hawkeye. How much better would you feel, this season, knowing that, had JR accepted his backup role and remained on the team, that we could avoid a 2009 situation if CJ goes down? No, I will not consider JR as still being a Hawk. His leaving could very well be the difference in competing for the B1G title, or even more.

Rudock was left with a no-win situation at Iowa. Either he would be stuck on the bench, or he'd win the job and have to deal with the fanbase hating his guts because they wanted CJB. And that's not even mentioning the major distraction his continued presence would have brought to the team.

JR didn't have to leave. He could have stayed and continued to play with the teammates he spent the previous 4 years working with. Your analogy doesn't quite ring true. A season ending is not equal to knowing you just got demoted and deciding your allegiance to the team isn't as great as is your desire to be a starter.

He sure didn't give a rip about the fans opinion in 2014, why would that have changed in 2015 if he'd won the job again?

Nine months ago, hardly anyone outside the program even wanted Rudock on the team this season. But once he left, it turned into a Rudock bash-fest because he quit.

Thus illustrating the no-win situation he was in. And Rudock was/is more than smart enough to realize that.

I don't recall any "bash fest" when JR left. The fans were getting what they wanted, as in CJ as the starter. What I do recall is fans on message boards arguing who was right and was it correct to name CJ as the starter in January.
