Why Owen, why?

I don't see this team losing to teams they should beat. They have a mental toughness that is fused into them by their coach. So, unless one of the big boys is coming into Carver, I think we win most of the games at home. I also see Iowa taking care of the few bottom dwellers of the conference on the road. And, they are going to sneak 1-2 games in the conference that they should not win. I think a .500 record or better in conference is pretty reasonable now given what we have seen.
This sounds good to me!

I had season tickets as a grad student for the Ralph Miller years in the old field house..
Watched the Hawks go undefeated in the BT. Wild!
I was a student at iowa 78-82. Saw some outstanding players (McHale, Thomas, etc), coaches (Knight, Judd), and great play.

Got to watch the entire final four team/season.

A BB ticket was far harder to get than a FB ticket. The old field house had steel foot planks and the din could be deafening.

Good stuff

Creighton played Butler the other night and Freeman had a whole 6 min. Did score 4 and have an assist in that 6 min. Creighton won 89-85
Yeah he's finding out he's not playing for Fran anymore. Not playing defense at all has him relegated to the bench. His range is limited on the offensive end he really doesn't add much besides fouls.

He's a guy who for the sake of his career actually shoulda followed Fran to Penn. Instead McDermott looked at box scores and an opportunity to easily poach a kid with size he thought would be productive. Freeman saw a paycheck.

I'm fine with this team as it is. They'll probably struggle in the B1G this year but there's something with this team we haven't seen in a loooong time at Iowa. The whole team seems to gel. Lot's of good young guys and a breath of fresh air coach that has everyone engaged. I say let this thing play out, let it be a process, and don't upset the apple cart. It's going to take BMC a couple years to get it rolling and patience is ok here, IMO. I trust the guy so far.
Agreed. If this team wins enough Big Ten games to make the tournament it would be a tremendous accomplishment. They are not overly talented and are going to have a challenge with their lack of size. But they really play well as a team and play defense which we haven’t seen foe awhile. You have to like new coach at this point. All comes down to getting some better players. That won’t be easy

I watched the game last night (Creighton is my second team). Its crazy, when Freeman is in there, he is super productive. He is sort of stuck behind Traudt, who is really talented and has range.

For those banging on Freeman for his limited defense that Fran found acceptable, umm, McDermott aint exactly known for his defensive focus. They play very similar styles. Freeman's lack of range and scoring ability would be okay if he were a rim protector like Kalkbrenner, but he just isn't. I said this when Freeman was at Iowa and I will say it again now, he is good at everything, but not great at anything. A guy like that has to be 7'2 to play 35 minutes. I am sure they regret paying him the dollars that they did, because he is probably playing his best role, which is eating minutes when the starters need a blow or are in foul trouble. He is not a difference maker, but he also makes some plays when he has the chance. Good guy to have on the bench, not worth 7 figures.

Also, watching Dix, he is contributing and doing well, but McDermott's system is just too fast for him. It pisses me off because he would have fit into McCollum's system like a glove and be that secondary scorer that could take Iowa to the next level. Both of these guys are seeing that the grass is not always greener.....

He had 0 pts 4 rbs and 1 assist in 5 mins last night... He's played less then 15 mins/game for at least the last 5 and hasn't hit double figures scoring in any of them. He shoots a high fg% cause all he ever shoots are dunks and layups at the rim. Still can't make FTs and obviously sucks on defense. If McDermott could flat out cut him I think he would. If Freeman was doing that for us we'd be running him out of town and I'm sure most Creighton fans think the same.

As far as I know Freeman is healthy and only getting 5 mins against a conference opponent at home... Yikes

Dix had an off shooting night but still played pretty well. He's solid defensively he rebounded well with 7 of those and had 4 assists. Dix was being used at the point some I don't think that's exactly the best way to be using him but I don't know their whole personnel situation.
