Why not run the pistol?

I don't know, you seem to want to review vines of plays. It's in your ID.

If Iowa would've called for predetermined pass patterns on that play, there wouldn't have been any guarantee Iowa would've exploited the lack of defense in the middle of the field. For all we could've known, Iowa could've called a pass pattern into the teeth of the Wisky defense.

As far as the possibility of an audible called to change the pass play to exploit the middle of the field, when has Iowa called an audible that does any more than switch to a run from one side of the field to the other?

If I set up a vine in my ID, it was completely unintentional! :D I know what a vine is...does that count? Maybe my profile picture is what you're talking about...eh, this internet thing is just a fad anyway.

I just found the play in question. 5 man pro but Wadley's (?) route didn't look like something that we'd throw quick off of a blitz. The leverage was ABSOLUTELY terrible by the Wisconsin DB...the slant was stealing and should have been 6. Given McCarron's penchant for working the MVB routes, I don't really think it's a stretch to assume that route was predetermined. Pure speculation though...unfortunately the camera was on Kittle (who had just false started) for the entire duration of the presnap formation, so it's tough to tell what was going on at the LOS prior to the snap.

This can be said about most of our opponents. The huge difference is the opposition routinely picks on and creates mismatches mainly against our linebackers. We do a terrible job at creating mismatches. Most of the athletes Iowa has are not elite but they can do some things if given the opportunity.
They have enough speed. we don't run the schemes or routes to use it.

Maybe my post didn't come across as I had meant it. You guys are saying the same thing I am...I wanted to say that while our WR speed certainly isn't anywhere close to elite, they do have enough speed to get open. They aren't a bunch of 5.0 40 guys running around in jorts...these guys earned scholarships for a reason. But the "rub" is that when they are not physically superior in some way, some creativity has to be infused into the game plan to ensure you have guys coming open for your QB, i.e. putting them into positions where they can be successful.

Um, it is 2016 right now and the offense is terrible.
Wow. You want to continue this discussion? It was the 2015 and 2016 seasons and the defense was terrible and Davis' offense had to save the day.

BTW, how about the Iowa VS. NDSU game in 2016? How did Iowa's defense fare in that game, hum? Iowa's defense couldn't get off the field in the second half to save their a**. But that's how Iowa's defense has always operated under KF, huh? Is it Iowa's defense can't get off the field or doesn't want to get off the field? Maybe Iowa's defensive philosophy has it backwards? How about Iowa's defense in the Purdue game? Good thing Iowa put up over 50 points. They needed ever single one of them for that win.

Side note: are you just going to continue to pivot to talk about Davis the entire bye week to take the heat off the botched de-commitment of Benjamin by KF and staff?

Iowa's D gave up 16 points vs NDSU. Your offense should never ever ever lose a game that your D held a FCS school to 16 points. If the O wouldn't have given up 7 pts, or if the O were competent enough to get 1 freaking first down Iowa wins that game. It is laughable that you think all of this and 231 total yard is acceptable from the Greg Davis offense.

Iowa's scoring D is #19 nationally. You can't seriosly think this is a Defense problem

Interesting how this thread veered here and there. All I was trying to say is the pistol keeps the I-formation element with the RB but still can break the hawk offense out of their highly predictable formations. And I am not following you on the the hawk offense being good this year and bailing out the defense. The defense held two big 10 teams to 7 points on the road and held Purdue to 14 points thru 50 minutes on the road.

Yes, I hate having our lbkrs guard faster receivers especially in 3rd and long. If Norm Parker could have stopped half the big third down plays he gave up he would have been a god and KF would have 20 more Iowa wins on his resume.
