Re: Why NBA center Jason Collins is coming out now Read More: http://sportsillustrat
This has been a hot topic today and I really don't know why. It was only a matter of time, but not a whole lot of people even know who this guy is and it is doubtful he will even play in the NBA again.
Here is the deal, a lot of people have been looking at this from the heterosexual side of things and I find it very laughable really. How will these guys shower together when Collins, or any other gay man is looking at them? Really?
Look at it from the other side for a moment...put yourself in the gay man's shoes on this one, well you can't, but here is a real scenario. How comfortable would you feel if you as a straight man were to shower with a locker room of lesbians?
Do you really think for a second any gay man is going to hit on another player in a locker room? Here is the deal, this guy can't act himself to begin with, but another thing to ponder is, how careful he has to be not to have someone take something the wrong way and get misconstrued? If a gay man is dumb enough to hit on another man in a professional sports locker room...well, he is going to get thumped I would imagine in one way or another, in the locker room, or on the field.
It isn't much different than a male coaching in hs girl athletics, you have to walk on eggshells and sometimes wonder if what you said was the wrong thing.
When it comes down to it, I have no issues with people who are gay, none whatsoever. I think it is time to move forward as there are gay men that play in professional sports. It is time to stop ignoring what is real and gay men in professional sports is real. It is amazing the things that this society is accepting of, but being gay is still something of a taboo. Why is there no backlash when WNBA, Tennis and other women's sports come out, but being a gay man is still something that is vilified and quite frankly it is sad.
