why marble wont be pg next year

Actually, DM and White will give Iowa some versatility to play different types of teams.

Against smaller more athletic teams, White can move inside and Dev can play wing. Against stronger teams White can play 3.

I would caution against counting White out defensively at the three. When you add the size we will be adding with Meyer, Woody, and a developed Gabe, defense will be a lot easier and his length will serve him well.

But I still see DM more front court than backcourt. I just think when it comes to the type of system FM runs, the three quicker guards, with Ogs as a sharpshooter will be the way things go.

I keep hearing about these mythical "stronger" teams. I can't think of any. I can hardly think of a team where White matches up well in man-to-man defense against another Big Ten teams "3" player. Rodney Williams played the "3" last year (he's playing the "4" this year) at Minnesota, which is the closest I've gotten. Maybe Jereme Richardson last year at Ill. I haven't seen much of PSU or ILL this year so maybe them.

didn't realize that basketball had become 40 yard dash contest, last i checked the court is only 32 yards long,
Marble did just fine against Taylor and he is supposed to be the best PG in the BT, but he will be a 2, White is very athletic for his size, and is just a "FRESHMAN", to write off Olaseni after his FRESHMEN YEAR is dead wrong and totaly moronic, most had discounted Marble after his freshman year,
i have seen so many idiot writing off a kid because of his freshman season

Basketball is about lateral quickness and first step speed.

Taylor's game is not based on his quickness. Taylor's game is based on his outstanding upper body strength. Have you EVER watched Taylor play?

Taylor is 6'1 and Marble is 6'6 and long. Marble is not a strong as Taylor but he does not have to be based on his size advantage and length. Marble is a tough match up for Taylor, as Taylor even when trying to use a step back still has trouble shooting over Marble's length. Taylor is not lightning quick and Marbles length allows him to sag back yet still affect Taylor's shot. Also with Marble staying back Taylor can't get into his body as easily or get around him.

Herby you know nothing about basketball.

He looks more explosive to me this year, than last. But his lateral quickness is questionable, and you really see it on defense. He just turned 19, so its possible with offseason dedication he can improve this (especially if he didn't do much advanced conditioning growing up).

I think Marble has got the best chance of playing pro ball on the team, but agree it's along way off. He at least has the potential size and skill-set, the question is going to be athleticism.

Well the 2 guard position is the most athletic position in the NBA. Marble is not on the same planet as those guys in terms of athletic ability and quickness. The one way one may be able to hide the lack of athletic ability is to be a very strong shooter, which Marble obviously isn't at this time.

I'm not sure why people feel the need to believe that there is an NBA player on this roster. Marble seems athletic because the rest of the guards minus Cartwright are just not athletic right now.

i will start by saying i think devyn is the best player on the team and the only reason we lost to nebby was his foul (i am discounting basabe in the game as others stepped up for him).
.

Quit reading after this. The only reason we lost was his foul?? Lunacy.

The more I think about it we could see allot of all three of the freshman guards next year.

They will probably be the three best perimeter defenders on the team right off the bat and Im pretty sure Fran and company are sick of watching bad defense.

Perimeter shooting is nice but you just can't win with bad defense.

May should realistically not see more than 5 minuets a game next year.

Basabe will have to earn every minuet he gets as well because McCabe, White Woodbury and Myer are more than capable of handling all the minuets at the 4 and 5 spots and writing off Olesani at this point is stupid.

his fould trouble. kept him out of the game and got him out of rythm yet he still scored 15 pts. wonder what would have happened if he had played more.

it was more the timing of the foul that had a impact, he got his 2nd with over 7 minutes to go in the 1st half, it was then that Nebraska cut into Iowa's lead and grab the momentum. the other thing about the fouls on Marble he never had one in the 2nd half,
then McCabe getting 4 fouls in the 2nd half after getting just one, that put him out of the game with over 3 minutes to go and being the leading scorer and Nebraska had no answer defensively for him, those two things were a pretty big factor in the loss.
fouls may or may not have a direct impact but the timing of the fouls and who gets them do play a role in the outcome.
this has happened twice with McCabe as he fouled out against Purdue again being the best player on the court for Iowa

Marble's defense on the other teams' point is quite good actually and it has nothing to do with other players on the team being "bad" at defense. And it will have nothing to do with whether he plays point next year or not and everything to do with how good Gesell is.

timing of fouls is important. and the timing of marble's 2nd foul took him out of the game at a time where they could have made a knockout punch but instead they lost their lead. also he didnt seem to have a rythm after he got back in.

my comment was about him playing sparingly at the 3 because he is not a good enough defender there. he is more of a 4 at this point until he can show he is quick enough to stick with a 3.
Thank you! With that I will agree.

Marble is 19 and to compare him to a NBA Player is unreal at this point, all one has to do is see how big a jump he made between his 1st year and and 2nd to see the potential, you can work on lateral quichness, and his long arms allow him a advantage over other players, and you have to remember it is anticipation that allows a big edge in whatever he may lack in speed, like i said don't write off a kid because of his Freshmen #'s,
not that many years ago freshmen were not allowed to play,
and i never heard anybody claiming that White or Marble were one and done players

How long ago couldn't freshman play? 30 years ago??? Not to mention plenty of 19 year olds have played in the league.

get real Marble has never been linked to the one and done type players, people at this point have no clue what will happen by the time his SR season is done, nobody has a crystal ball nor a time machine,
with Fran who knows how he will mold Marble, he's done a very good job of turning him into a BT pg, there is no evedence to show he can't coach him into a NBA SG
as for White he is the 3rd leading scorer on this team as a reserve, again nobody know a thing about what the future holds for each, in the end it all comes down to coaching and what the player wants and if the kid wants to put into the effort and training to reach the next level
