Why KF philosophy may hurt Iowa's playoff chances

If we run the table and beat the defending national champions in the B1G Championship, there is no chance we get left out of the play-offs. None. The trick is running the table and beating OSU, and no, OSU will not lose to either Michigan or MSU.

The difference with Ohio State was that they had 1 loss. The only scenario Iowa is getting in is by going undefeated and if they do that they will be in the playoffs and even if they win every game by 1 point.

This is rarified air we are talking about and what is great about message boards. We have an opportunity to do something no iowa team has done..Go 12-0 and play for something very special. I am enjoying this ride. If KF can pull this off and I don't give a **** about the strength of schedule bs. He should be given a lifetime contract.

I think Iowa will be in even with one loss, provided the Hawks beat an undefeated MSU or OSU in the Championship Game. Nobody will have a win like that on their resume. Also, go Pitt. Beat Notre Dame.

NO ONE on this forum can sniff KF's knowledge of football ...

these type threads are a joke

What keen insight you have about subject matter of threads. I guess there is no point discussing any subject because we can't sniff KFs football knowledge. Jon should just shut down the board..

This was my thoughts. If there is an undefeated team from each of the power 5 schools, Iowa might very well get left out. Everyone thought the Big 12 got screwed last year. Would they really do it 2 years in a row in favor of a team like Iowa?

Chances of an undefeated B1G team not making it into the playoffs are slim to none. If it were OSU, MSU or PSU there would be no question whatsoever. Like it or not, the B1G is either the first or second most powerful conference in the nation (with SEC). If undefeated B1G team were not in the playoffs, Delaney would do whatever it took to topple the current college football structure (some might argue this is a good thing). The long-term demographic trends aren't in favor the B1G footprint, but the conference still has some sizable TV markets:

Chicago
Minnesota
Cleveland
Columbus
Indianapolis
Pittsburgh
Philadelphia
New Jersey
New York
Detroit/Michigan
DC
St. Louis (claimed by both B1G and B12)

Specific to the B12, yes a B1G undefeated champion would get in over TCU or Baylor. If the B12 team in question was Texas or Oklahoma, it would be another matter.

Not related, but the sooner this thing can go to 8 and then a 16 or 32-team playoff the better. The FCS schools already have a 24-team playoff and they manage the logistics.

Disagree on that one, I doubt a 1-loss Iowa gets in unless a whole host of losses happen to the existing 0 and 1-loss teams. Iowa's one loss in that scenario would be to Maryland, Purdue, Indiana, Minnesota or Nebraska. That alone would move them out.

I am very much in favor of 8 team playoff. It's only one more week of games and still fits well within the bowl system. It also allows every P5 conference to have a representative, along with the rare instance when a conference still has 2 teams highly ranked in the top 8. It still also allows an elite independent or non-power 5 to have an opportunity.

16 teams would be cool, but I can't see it happening. It's just too many.

I could see a situation where the committee could choose 10 teams, with the bottom 4 playing a "play in" game.

Honestly, if you're outside the top 10, in my opinion, you simply shouldn't be in the running for a Natl Title.
