I came across an article that might be of interest to some. I did not know this that in 1926 the Big Ten was thinking of expanding. A regular meeting of the Presidents was scheduled in Iowa City. By a 6 to 4 vote it was decided not to expand. Nebraska, Michigan State and Notre Dame were three of the schools under consideration. I do not know how Iowa voted.
My second link is to a section from a book the author referenced.
