Why Girls Are the Best Hope to Save Wrestling

Good article. My question is, How are girls going to save college wrestling?

That was my thought as well. The article points out the statistics and growth, but stops short at spelling it out how that equates to "saving" wrestling in college. The numbers are eye opening however as to the growth and continued popularity of the sport.

Good Read, I would have to agree with the fact that wrestling could be an up an coming girls sport. My 8 year old daughter just started wrestling this year, and after only two practices went to a tournament pinned a boy and nearly beat another. If you would have asked me before I had daughters if girls belonged in wrestling I would have said absolutely no, it is funny how you position changes depending on your view. I would still like to see her wrestle girls instead, but it is what it is. Now I played bball in H.S., but I can appreciate what wrestling can do for a person. It has helped both my son and daughter understand that success depends upon hard work, dedication, and mind set, so i would urge anybody with kids to get them involved, the kids may never be wrestlers in H.S. or beyond but they will definitley benefit from the experience. Plus it is great fun to watch if you like intensity.

Didn't read the article, but girls really are the key for simple title 9 reasons. You could have a girls team and it would be cheap, especially if you shared dual dates with the men.

Just skimmed it the article, but the local news down here gave as much time to the local girls wrestling at state as they did the boys. Granted, it's Texas and the only time they show wrestling on the news is when the state tournament is going on here in Austin.

Since you live in Texas, you should get them going on the sport. It's a potential sweet spot to grow the sport.

That would cause more harm than good. There's a reason I played basketball, I sucked at wrestling. I enjoy watching it, but trying to coach it would be a baaaaaad thing.
