Why don't we have any walk-ons?

Shoot, I forgot all about Nick. He sounded like a solid player in HS, but he will probably have a Ph.D. before he's able to absorb the inticacies of "the system" well enough to risk seeing the floor.

Yeah and apparently, Andrew Brommer, who wasn't 'seeing the light' earlier this season, is now admitted to the Grad program.

:)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the roster limit is 15, with 13 scholarships allowed.

Don't know for sure but here is a list of current number of players on each Big10 team.

Wisky - 16
Illinois - 13
fOSU - 14
Purdue - 15
Minny - 11
Michigan - 14
Indiana - 16
NW - 13
Iowa - 11
PSU - 14

to fill out the bench at least...help in practice....Mr. Davis used to have the grayshirts....

I can't believe how much people love walk ons here...my question would be, "why does Iowa have any walk-ons?". walk ons, to me, are useless...filling out a 15 man roster seems to be considered an accomplishment for this program

Seriously... have you ever sought help for depression? You have to be the most negative person I have ever seen... EVER! You make eeyore look like a peppy cheerleader.

As for walk-ons.... apparently you don't remember Mr. Davis's use of them.. because if you were anything more than a troll/bandwagon fan (not sure why you would jump on the bandwagon now) you would have fond memories of Darryl Moore (a 6'2" PF), Jason Bauer (the gutsiest player I have ever seen in a Hawkeye uniform), and Jason Smith (a guy who filled in nicely on a pretty "decent" hawkeye team under Alford).

Oh and by the way.... if walk-ons were worthless... the Iowa FB team would flat out suck!!! (Don't sleep on the walk-ons who have become all big ten performers)

Answers the question about 15 being the upper limit. Not sure there is one for nonscholarship players.

If you have walk ons with significant minutes, you ( the coach, the team ) have a problem. Either you have so many injuries that you run out of players ( IOWA womens BB ), or you recruited poorly and your choice players arent that good, or you have players(s) who have left...either at a key position or a few positions, or...a combination of the aforementioned reasons.

Oh is this the football forum? Ya were talking about basketball here, which, in my eyes, is a completely different ballgame. Darryl Moore? Jason Bauer? Jason Smith? I'm just going to leave those questions unanswered here cuz I don't think that anyone will be shocked by my breakdowns of these players...

Have you ever been around a basketball team before? Lavell Jordan and Garret Lickliter had to wear jersey's in practice to run drills at times this season. You have walk on's for the sole purpose of practice. Do you need 16 players on a roster? No, but it is nice to have a couple who will bust their *** for the good of the program. I find it rather odd though that Iowa has zero in state walk ons minus Lil Lick.

I think that people on this thread are talking about playing walk-ons...not the gray team that tom davis used to have, which was a practice squad and if you paid your dues on that team you got to sit on the end of the bench your last two years. I'm fine with that. What I'm trying to say is that if you are playing walk-ons in Big Ten college basketball you are sunk...a walk on at a big ten program tells me most likely that player had no other full ride D1 offers. so that would make them D2 talent or worse and that doesn't fly in a BCS conference for basketball...some people value "effort guys" and "hustle guys". I prefer "talent guys" and "high upside guys"...a team full of mediocre (in a national sense) in state talent, effort guys, and one dimensional players get you as far as getting beat by NW STATE in the first round of the NCAA's...

If I remeber correctly Jeff Hornacek was a walk on at ISU (not a Big 10 school) and went on to a pretty decent NBA career
