If someone wants to take the time to run the same numbers for total offense and scoring offense have at it, but you might puke....

I dont, I want a new Offensive Coordinator. Speaking of which Turner Gill was just fired at Kansas which means Chuck Long is once again available for hire.

It is an age and health thing clearly. Fears about how his age and health is hurting recruiting coupled with defensive collapses at the end of games the last few years.

That said, the offense is the bigger problem (and special teams).

I like Norm and hope he stays at DC for a few more years. Having said that, I can understand why people are concerned about his inability to hit the recruiting trail because of his health.

KF WILL NEVER FIRE KOK OR NORM. GARBAR WILL NEVER FIRE KF OR EVEN FORCE KF TO MAKE CHANGES TO HIS STAFF.

Chuck Long would be good but I doubt he wants to come back. Wasnt he interested in replacing Fry but didnt get much of a look.

No question Norm knows his X's and O's BUT in college football it's vital to recruit. I personally would like Luke Fickell before Mike Stoops due to this reasoning.

Fickell would be an amazing hire, but I have to believe he'll go to a low teir AQ program or a non AQ school as a HC.

I would venture to guess that these defensive rankings appear better based on out tempo and schemes. We slow the ball down by running heavily and play bend don't break defense. This allows opponents fewer scoring opportunities as well as ourselves which is why we can beat Michigan but lose to Minnesota. I'd rather see a ranking that shows percentage of opponents total possessions that resulted in points. That's the best way to evaluate our defensive success.

These stats mean NOTHING!! Watch IA play defense one game. Like I've said, it's a SLOW PAINFUL DEATH. We are the king at giving up 15-play 10-minute drives and allow just a FG. OUR OPPONENTS WATCH FILM AND UNDERSTAND THIS AND JUST CONTINUE TAKING THE 5-8 YRDS WE GIVE EACH PLAY. Our offense stays on the sideline, as well as the oppenents defense (keeping them nice and fresh for the 4th qtr).

Then, on offense, we do nothing more the BLEED CLOCK like's it's KF's mission to shorten each game. We are NEVER in a hurry and rarely snap the ball without taking 30-35 seconds off the 40-second clock. We like to run the ball, even when it doesn't work, running more clock.

Meanwhile--watch any other college game. Fast-paced, lots of down-field action, hurry-up offenses (many teams don't even huddle, so defense can't make subsititutions).

Our offense (and defense) has many less possessions because of these factors. THESE NUMBERS MEAN NOTHING. Again, just watch one game with our pathetic D scheme, and watch how other teams just exploit it and take what we give it. And, of course, where it really hurts is the end of games, when our D is gassed b/c they have been on the field all day.
