Why do we drop so many balls?

A) Stanley throws the short passes 100 MPH at our receivers' feet

B) We keep throwing it to Marsette

The question we should be asking is why do we keep running to the short side of the field? Both of our running backs perform better in open space, so it should be common sense to run it to the wide side of the field.

I remember in the pre-season an HN staff writer had an article about the WR group and the coach telling them that everybody was saying they were the weakest unit on the field

And the receivers smiled and nodded with the attitude that they were going to surprise some people.

Yep. I’m surprised. Last year’s group didn’t drop 3-4 balls a game

They didn't have as many chances.

Stanley has a rocket for an arm but his throws aren't accurate. His throws lack touch. When Stanley attempts a touch pass, the ball looks like quail being shot out of the sky

Then that’s gotta get fixed by next year . If you are setting things up for 3 or 4 big shots then you have to connect. It changes everything.

This off season ISM better spend as much time with the jug machine as he does with his girlfriend. Haha, I know there is a joke in there somewhere. In all seriousness, he is the vertical threat next year, he has gotta be better.

Our defense will almost certainly take a step, or two, back next year. What happens if our offense doesn't take 3 steps forward (as well as punting game)....

3-4 wins, maybe.

because our programs philosophy is mistakes are bad. our program doesn't live with mistakes and since we throw so few times and our WR's get so few targets, a drop can get in their heads. its like a scarlet letter. now, i will say that ISM has been given a very fair opportunity and so has Easley. And rightly so. but historically, if you drop a pass in practice, do you really think you're gonna see game time under kirk ferentz; a coach who probably really hates the forward pass?

Mostly true. Doesn't explain the accurate passes that were dropped...and there were about 15 of them the last 2 weeks.
Iowa's passing line the last two weeks was 8-24 against Wisconsin and 16-33 against Purdue. That comes to a 24-57 passing completion percentage (42%) for the two games. If it's true Iowa's WRs dropped 15 catchable balls in the last two games, that theoretically would bring the total of caught balls to 39 (out of 57 attempts) for the two games or a 68% completion rate. Sixty-eight percent would be a very good pass completion rate in my estimation.

So in the last two weeks, maybe a reason why so many drops was because the team was behind for good portions of both games. Iowa had to get out of their normal offense which was ball control. When do you as an aficionado of the Iowa defense lay some of the blame of getting behind on the Iowa defense?

This put pressure on WRs to catch rocket balls over the middle that probably were a bit off target lacking any touch. This probably got into WRs heads. It certainly got into Stanley's head. It seemed to get into the OLinemen's heads. Particularly Daniels the center's head. Side note: I don't get it. Was the Iowa marching band playing while Iowa's offense was on the field like what happened in the Wisky game? Is that why Daniels hiked the ball to Stanley for the second game when Stanley wasn't expecting it?
