Why do the donors love the Ferentz family so much?

Unicorns? Nice job with the 1920's, 98 yr old comparisons.

I'm sorry for your loss. My point being, why not cheer more? How many seasons do you get to cheer the Hawks in life? Enjoy each and every season. We have a lot of reasons to be thankful.

What is with you?? The guy said the the 2015 season was the only undefeated season so I was just setting the record straight, putting out a little history.

Frustrated as I get with the 7 win norm...and Kirk's offensive phobia.. he does run a solid program with good kids and is a hell of a lot better than a lot of tool bags who become D-1 football coaches. For guys who want their investments to payoff moderately well and not embarrass them...he's a pretty good risk.

I am a donor and have been asking for a change for the last 5 years.
...and you still donate? There's only 1 way to effect change. Gutless Gary only understands 1 thing. We have to take his money away. Can you do yourself and the rest of us a favor and please stop? Thanks.

KF reminds me of one of those journeymen professional boxers. You know, the guys with the 34-12 professional record. Not exactly the tomato can. The guy that hangs around getting paid to prop up the records of the real contenders. There's nothing wrong with making a living that way. You just won't get many people rooting for you as you take your beatings. He should consider himself fortunate that Iowa fans are loyal to the brand. It appears that we will always root for the usual punching bags.

I dont know, checking tape from the 1920's just didn't sit right lol Second part was meant for a different post, not yours

Like buying stocks in the electric company. Never going to win big, but you wont lose big either.

Poor comparison. He's the underdog who, despite the odds, takes the champ to the 15th round in a brutal back and forth match. In the end the champ acknowledges how good the fighter is. Think Apollo Creed, 2008 Penn State, 2015 B10 Title Game, Penn State game this past year, MSU on the road last year, 2016 Michigan, 2015 Wisconsin, etc.

Here's where I see a bit of the problem with your analysis. I think this gets everyone rooting for you. His teams are ALWAYS in the fight. There is always hope against any opponent. I think you can count on 1 hand the games we were completely outclassed in the last 5 years. Stanford in 2015 and Wisconsin last year. Florida & Penn State maybe in 2016.

Yeah...facts are facts...it's a good point about undefeated seasons...but the game and everything associated with it has changed so much since 1960, that the comparison to that era is ridiculous. I would love to see what Iowa's offensive line averaged in 1960...225 pounds maybe.

2003 Rose Bowl, Arizona St 2004, Ohio St 2005, Iowa St 2005 maybe, Ohio St 2006, Penn St 2007, Purdue 2007. All 20 pt losses, at least. When you add those to the 4 you listed, you can't count them on TWO hands! You really should go back and look at the records if you are going down this road.

As others have pointed out in the ‘ City Boyz’ thread he was embarrassed by that and decided from then on he wasn’t going to take risk on certain kids anymore. After that he realized he could have down seasons and 7 win seasons and still keep his job.

He has acknowledged publicly that he would have been ran out of dodge at a lot of places. KF has to be the envy of a lot of power 5 coaches, he can keep his gig and not compromise who he is.

Interesting, I'm no rocket scientist, but i'm thinking the 2004 Arizona State game, the 2005 Ohio State game, and all the other games from over ten years ago, are not within the last FIVE YEARS like what I referenced in my post. You need to go back to school and work on reading comprehension. It will serve you well as you ramble through the rest of your life.

You did, however, reinforce my point...when you look at all the games referenced....and the timeframe...it shows KF's teams are always going to be in the fight to the end of the game...albeit occasionally they are outclassed, unprepared, or mentally flatfooted as in the games we are referencing.

The original point that I made, referenced the journeyman boxer's entire record. You responded to my post, so you don't get to change the rules. Just because you want to limit the scope to bolster your ridiculous argument, doesn't mean I'm going to play along. Play idiot games with someone else that's interested in you cherry picking records. I'm not the least bit interested. If we play by your rules, KF hasn't won a Big ten title because it didn't happen in the last 5 years. The irony here is that some of the losses I posted, came in KF's Big Ten title seasons and you don't want to count them!

Perhaps, but I think what you're inferring is a false premise. You don't have to compromise yourself completely to be a winner. KFz could have won more games if he didn't coach so inflexibly and sphincter tight...even with the players he's had. He could easily be an 8-4 coach instead of a 7-5 coach.

In fact, lets finish off the list of 20 pt losses in the KF era.
Penn St 2012
Michigan 2012
Minnesota 2013
Tennessee 2013 (late scores kept this under 20 pts after Tennessee called off the dogs ahead 45-14, late in 4th)
Wisconsin 2012 (19 pt - honorary mention)
Stanford Rose Bowl
Penn St 2016
Florida 2016
Wisconsin 2017
Add the previous 7 with this 9 and you get a total of 16! I didn't even bother to include prior to 2002 but I can. I'm sure there were more than a handful of beatings in KF's first 3 seasons, to add to this list.

Agreed. I'm a harsh critic of KF, at times and I don't hold him accountable for that City Boyz nonsense. He looks at hundreds of players every year. He has to rely on the words and references of high school coaches and parents. And even then, there are bound to be kids that fall through the cracks once they get to college. People have used the "investment" argument in this very thread. Occasionally, your stocks lose money. That doesn't mean that you stop investing, does it? City Boyz was obviously a "losing stock". It happens. That doesn't mean to pull your money out of the market and stuff it all in 6 month CDs.

God, I'm arguing with a Kardashian. You are completely missing the my point. His teams are always in games with a chance to win them, regardless of the opponent. In the last 16 years there have been 19 times we have been beaten by more than 14 points. That's out of roughly 205 games. Five of those games were bowl games where we were outclassed completely in a few. So, 14 times during the regular season in 16 years were we technically beaten soundly. I would also say, in a few of those 14 point games...they were close contests.

Before someone chimes in about "oh, you are happy we don't lose big, it's still losing..." I'm trying to make a point about competitiveness and the physicality of KF's teams period. Rarely does someone come in and dominate an Iowa team...that's the point. Think Nebraska the last two years...they have been beaten 7 times by more than 14 points in two years....7 times. I'm as unhappy about losses as the next guy, whether it's 15 points or 1 point.

The point is...his teams come to play no matter who the opponent is and what they are ranked...and it's going to be a dog fight.

Any time you have to leave out a portion of data to make your argument sound stronger, your argument looks weak.

Fair point......Of KF’s 143 victories you could make the argument that there should be at least 10 to 12 more if he was just a better game manager.
