Why do few on this board like Brommer?

The only flaw that really bothers me about AB is he really looks lost and confused most of the time. He's been practicing with Lick for 2 yrs now I expect he should know what to do.

I tend to agree with this. He looks like the game is happening a little too fast for him.

The kid hustles, stays out of trouble, and seems to be a good teammate. From everything I've seen and heard he seem like a good kid it's just that things on the court don't seem to be coming natural for him.

I first became critical of him when he missed two big free throws last year (I can't remember the game) I remember another poster on Hawkeyeinsider comment in that situation Brommer appeared to lack testicular fortitude. From then on I kind of see what that poster was talking about.

I do think Brommer can still develop into a competent big man for us. I think a red shirt year would do him a lot of good.

Up until last night I thought he was a wasted scholly. But I see some improvement from last year and, outside of shooting, I think he's better than Cougs (granted, shooting is a big part of the game). He's quicker and has better hops than Cougs and seems to be trying harder.

Brommer is like Looby without the ability to block shots and dunk ridiculously easy. He is a better free throw shooter but considering he averages less than one attempt per game, that doesn't really matter.

The fact that people think he should be playing goes to show how much trouble this program is in. If Cody Larson and McCabe don't improve our depth at the 4 and 5 position next year, it will be another long year.

Brommer is horrid on offense; Cougill is horrid on defense. I see Cougill improving his defense before Brommer learns to be reliable on offense and therefore Cougill will get PT and Brommer will get left out.

I actually like what I've seen of him just recently. He's strong, he's long, and he's aggressive--if anything, maybe a little too aggressive, but it's easier to train that out of a kid than it is to instill aggressiveness.

He still has a lot of work to do but I could see us getting two solid years out of him. I'm coming around to hoping he doesn't transfer.

I agree. Last nite he showed me a little more game than before. I would rather have him stay as a backup guy on the bench...you always need big men to come in and bang, maybe give up a foul...and his incredible turnaround on the line shows me he has some skill, but was just freaking last year at the line.

At this point, without even seeing Archie, I have my doubts that Archie will play ahead of him next year. We have screwed up our non-redshirts so much...I would have redshirted Brommer his frosh year, then Cougill this year, and had Archie play....we do the opposite...

Brommer actually has displayed flashes of a decent mid-range jump shot and has also made some nice moves toward the bucket. Unfortunately, last night those shots did not fall which could be because he is pressing a bit much as I'm sure he wants to prove to the coaching staff that he should be getting more PT. In a way it reminds me a bit of Fuller last season in which you could see flashes of some nice moves but just wasn't finishing the bunnies. Fortunately for Iowa, Fuller has stuck with the team and worked his butt off in the off-season both on finishing around the bucket and on the weight lifting necessary to make him successful down low.

I remain hopeful that our new full-time strength and conditioning coach is going to help these young men make tremendous strides between now and next season. Will it be enough to get over the hump...only time will tell but I will continue to stick behind all of our current team as I see them each working extremely hard.

The guy has absolutely no idea what to do with the ball in his hands. I cringe every time he sees the court, and he might be the worst bball player in all D1. He's pretty decent from the FT line, though. I'll give him that. I know there has been a lot of Brommer love on this board as of late, so I'm sure I'll get some heat from saying these things.

Worst in all D1? Really? I can think of someone else who fits that description better.

I find it kind of amusing that some of the people who are critical of Brommer do manage to compliment his free throw shooting.

Wasn't he an absolutely horrible ft shooter last season? So he did manage to improve that part of his game. So maybe allowing some more time for development, possibly even a RS season, could make him a servicable BT player.

Man, let's not give up on our players so easily guys.

Not giving up on him but if we have to wait 3-4 years for our guys to develop, we are never going to catch up to the rest of the Big Ten. I have a feeling Archie is nowhere near ready to play at this level and that is why they chose to use the red shirt. We will be lucky if Brommer is a consistent contributor by the time he is a senior. It's nice to have a big body at your disposal as a coach, but what a liability on offense.

I would like to say congrats to Andrew last night. Unfortunately Sims made some insane shots. However, they were the shots we wanted.

1) Brommer's defensive footwork has improved greatly
2) He is fighting for rebounds
3 I bet he has put at least 20 lbs of lean mass on in 18 months. that is showing dedication.
4) I will disagree that he is worthless on offense. His lack of playing time is showing up offensively. He is rushing things. Things will slow down for him with more playing time. Shots will start to fall.
5) I do not foresee him starting. However, I do see a more than capable back up for the next couple of years.

Congrats Andrew. Nice steal from Harris. Keep up the good work.
