Why do Bowl packages cost so little?

I show up at the airport and I know I have a flight.
I know the flight will leave on time.
I know my flight won't be oversold.
I know when the plane lands I'll go from plane/Tarmac/to bus.
When I get off the bus I'll walk to my room w/out hassle.
I know my room won't be oversold.
My luggage will be delivered w/out fail.
I know I'll have hassle free travel to/from the game.
I'll be with Hawk Fans.
I know I'll have a ticket that was obtained/sold w/out fraud.
If I have questions or problems I have several people that can/will help me.
Ala carte this is all cheaper, but what is your sanity worth?
I'm not a paid spokesperson, when in fact Jon has booted me off this board other times before. I have done Jon's trips numerous times and they're well done.

Give me a PM Jon and I'll fess up, but I'm guessing you know who I am.

If you cant plan and make that work on your own without someone holding your hand you shouldnt go to a bowl game! Bowl packages have a ridiculous price, we all know it, thats how it works so if one doesnt like it they dont buy it.....if someone wants to do it they buy it, end of story

It is what it is. They are what they are.

Do you drive a Mercedes or are you happy with a Huyandai?

Neither side/choice is wrong....just different.

Different strokes for different folks.

I have done Jon's trip and loved it yes it is a lot of money but it was my first bowl game and the ability to have someone else do all the planning and what not was very nice. The next two bowl games I went to I took a group of people with me. We drove and I did all the planning it worked out great. If I went by myself most likely would try to find a few people to do Jon's trip with otherwise will drive myself.

I've never done a charter, but a lot of times when things go wrong it's out of your control. Getting to the 2009 Outback Bowl was an absolute nightmare for me. I spent an entire day in the Des Moines Airport (had a 6 a.m.) flight and didn't find out it was canceled until 6 p.m. The next day our flight was scheduled for 7 a.m., the crew was late, so we left at 7:20, then flew unexpectedly from DSM to Cedar Rapids (yeah, you read that right) to pick up a few extra passengers. When we landed in CR, they discovered maintenance issues, so we had to hang out at the Eastern Iowa Airport until about 5 p.m. When we got to Atlanta, we had to scramble to find a flight, and didn't make it to Tampa until midnight, and our destination was actually supposed to be Sarasota (I have family there).

Even when you go on a charter, mother nature doesn't really give a ^#*(#. If the weather is bad, you're going to be delayed just like everyone else.

When it comes to mechanical or maintenance issues, charter, scheduled, it doesn't really make any difference.

Sometimes, bad luck just rolls your way. Other times, it's as efficient as possible. Luck of the draw I guess.

Very true, but when you make your own arrangements and have flights canceled, it's very difficult to get on another flight (especially that time of the year). With the charter, if the flight is delayed, you know that you still have a spot reserved once it leaves.

I think we all agree that bowl charters are very nice. Most everything is taken care of. But let's take last year for instance. I went to the Orange Bowl booking everything on my own. I spent roughly $1100 for everything. That included airfare, hotel, rental care, game ticket, going out to eat, alcohol, taxi, ect.

Jon Millers bowl charter was over $2,000 and that doesn't include going out to eat, booze ect. You could easily drop another $300 to $400 per person on extra spending money so it could cost almost $2,500 which is $1400 more than what I spent. I also had a 4 night stay vs a 3 night stay. In my world, an extra $1,400 for a 3 day vacation is a whole lot of money. Now if you have a lot of money, then I say go on the Charter.
