Why DC hire has to be a top get!!!

The defense has mostly carried and predicted this teams record since day one of KF years. We all know the defensive rankings nationally have been much higher than the offensive rankings. I say the offense has even under achieved much of the time and will probably stay at this level.

To maintain a chance of staying an upper tier B1G team this hire needs to be a great get. Does it have to be a known quantity who gets hired? A current or former DC? Or could it be a long time monte kiffen type protege?

I hope they are younger with fire but still play a solid, tough non-gimmicky defense.

Does anyone know of a sleeper out there who could fit the bill?

Staying an upper tier team? If you break the conference into three tiers, we are in the middle third at this point. The chance to reach the upper tier was lost in 2010, and it's going to take a few things to get back to that point. I do agree that this hire is extremely important.

its iowa, do we ever get a big name hire in any sport? i see iowa getting a no name coach and our D suffering bcuz of it.

Norm Parker was a great get because his Vandy defense was #1 against the pass and good in SEC overall just a couple years before he came to Iowa. I guess you have to wonder why Phil Parker never left to take a DC job at another school even UNI level to get the experience and make a name, then look to come back to Iowa or a D1 team.

What nonsense. We got Norm when Ferentz was an untested head coach taking over a downtrodden program with little financial resources. He will make another excellent choice this time when he has far more to offer.

How dare you sprinkle in some common sense into this conversation. We have been 7-5 the last two years and Kirk is terrible and we are doomed and in a downward spiral and we should fire everyone and Kirk makes to much money and ..........

Well as long as the new DC can put his shirt on the right direction the KF fans will love him no matter what.

Needs to be a Great Get, Wants to be a Hawkeye, Chip on his shoulder, competitive mentality, wants to win championships, diamond in the rough, wait til Doyle gets a hold of his recruits....

Columbushawk must be stupid if after the last few years he thinks kazinski (sp) was a good hire. GEEZus, my post is a simple statement with some questions to see if some people know of other possible choices.

Plus I am also making the point that our offense is weighing us down.

Were you watching hawkeye football from 1965 to 1978 like I was. Did we have great hires then. get a brain before you call someone stupid.

True and that guy ran like 7 DL off into the sunset. Aiken would be a GREAT get if we could get him. Great college coach who went on to a successful pro D coach.

The name or percieved " hotness" of the name will not win a single game. Lets just leave it at this needs to be a good hire and move on.

There are pros and cons to every line of thinking and we can stand up and cheer or we can ***** and moan at the hire ( see auburn) but we won't know a thing until we see the product for a while.
