Why Can't Iowa Have a Jet Sweep

It seems to me that Canzeri would be a good sweep candidate. It seems as though the jet sweep is something that defenses have to prepare for. It seems as though the jet sweep integrates deceptions. It seems as though you can pass out of the jet sweep.

this may sound like a smart *** answer, but i promise you it isn't. here is the answer: because that's not the Iowa way. KF is okay with WR reverses, and the occasional flea flicker, but that's really it for variety. also impossible to get multiple RBs in the game at the same time. personally, i think just a little tweak like that could go a long ways to keeping the D honest, but they just don't like to do that stuff.

Powell could run it from the wide position but it doesn't matter because its not in the playbook.

As others have stated we know Kirk is conservative and this type of play involves a risk of losing yardage. I believe a big part of kirks philosophy is staying on schedule in order to have manageable 3rd downs.

i agree, but if he's watched any tape at all, he'd see that running Weisman on those dumb outside zone runs is an even worse idea.

I honestly believe that Iowa doesn't run this type of play because Ferentz doesn't think we have the talent. In the past I've seen enough players come off the bench for the first time of the year and finish the season and end up being better than the ones that were starting.

We ran a toss sweep once. They called it "28 Thunder" or just "Thunder". It was to shon greene against wisconsin and he took it to the house.

I have a feeling that we ran a lot of stuff with Shonn that we haven't run since.

we don't run counters. the only thing we run as a mix up to the zone run is the bootleg PA pass.

Meat we do run counter plays. Gott listen to Eddie, sometimes I don't recognize the blocking scheme because I'm watching the ball - so the radio provides a better insight IMO>

Like i said it will work. Line up the same and open a spot for mark to go up the middle. Two plays from the same alignment. Dont like that? Tell the te to release and when he does, throw it to him. Three plays to prepare for out of one alignment.
Make them work for it a little.

Stupid phone i cant edit now. Anyway what i was saying above is a staple play. You get to test their lbs side to side, you get to test their dl and backers by going up the gut and you get to test the lbs in pass coverage. 3 test out of one alignment. Find a crack and exploit it.

To be honest I don't think we have nobody with enough speed this yr to run any kind of sweeps. Ferentz is way to conservative to put anything like that in the gm plan.

maybe you're right. the guys on TV sure don't know what's going on. i'm not a big fan of Dolph though, but i do like Eddy.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Wisconsin people sitting around me were laughing about our playing calling. They couldn't believe it took us so long to hand the ball off to a big slow running back. Obviously the play works against less talented defenses, but against a strong front 7, I would like to see us get more creative.
