Who's the leader?

A team with this much talent that repeatedly folds down the stretch is lacking something important: a leader. On the court.

If Marble is the NBA-bound stud many claim, he should be the glue and leader that prevents this from happening. It's not just taking the big shot when your team needs one, it's Senior leadership...holding your guys together and knowing what needs to happen on the floor.

He doesn't have "it". We don't have "it".

From everything I've heard regarding team chemistry - this team has that in truck-loads. So perhaps that your question is a bit old fashioned?

What we dont have is good shooting and good FT shooting. I am not sure what the shooting percentages were but their FT shooting has been poor and it seemed the FG shooting was poor tonite.

They play good defense and sometimes really good defense and can push the ball but if they shot better overall it would take care of the leadership part.

Two bad shooting games and a cold spell and ragged turnovers against Nova are what gave this team 3 losses.

I hope you are right but Marble commented in the post game that he didn't know that Fran had been ejected. Fran addressed the team before he left the court. It made me wonder how much Marble was actually listening?

No reason to overreact. We just lost to a top 5 team on the road by 4. Maybe if we had lost at home to Northwestern we could have conversations like this but that hasn't happened yet.

Losing at home to NW would create a tidal wave on this site of epic proportions.
Lets not go there.

Marble and White both made some huge shots down the stretch. Marble has played pretty big in the big games...it's the other guards that have really disappeared at big times.

I think we're an Elite 8 team, going to be very hard to go past that with a starting guard that shoots 65% from FT line. It's interesting how great FT shooters shoot better at the end of tight games.

I think you missed my point. Nothing Iowa has done this season has given you any indication that we would lose to NW at home. Not being able to seal the deal on the road vs a top 10 team is a little different.

Our point guard should be leading by putting Marble or White in position to make a play instead,he took it upon himself to drive and get rejected by Wisconsin's bigs. When he did get fouled he missed both freethrows. It comes down to knowing your strengths playing to them.

Team chemistry does not equate to "leadership." A leader wants the ball, on every possession, the last 3 minutes of the game. A leader steps up on defense and leads by example. After a bad play, a leader steps in and calms the team.

Marble and White. White rushed up to Gesell right before half and told him to hold for the last shot. He (White) then looked over to the bench to get the play. Both White and Marble will take the shot when we need a score. They may not always hit it but they will take it.

You may be on to something here. Remember how Gatens took on that leadership role when he became a senior? Not sure I've seen that from Marble.

This team is missing some intangible.

The answer to the question is Marble and White. White stepped up mentally when he made his comments about losing to teams they are better than.

How many shots did Marble take at the end of the game compared to Gesell?
How many touches did Marble and White get at the end of the game?

I already deleted the game but it seems like Gesell was trying to take the game over when it should be Marble and White.
