Quick Post the top 3 teams you would like to play in a non conference match up that are not currently on any future schedule:
Mine are:
1. Nebraska
2. Florida
3. Missouri

I'll update this post to keep a running total, just seeing where everyone is at.

So Far its Nebraska in a landslide...but why?

I would think Iowa's perfect non conference schedule would look like this:

Nebraska
Iowa State
D1AA
MAC team

I'd likeIowa to buck the trend in college ball. I'd like to see Iowa take on a team or two from the SEC - In Iowa City, in November. :)

My thought is make the schedule TOUGH. This year it was good, but I'm talking the kind of slate that a 12-0 or 11-1 record makes you the hands-down favorite in the NT game.

Teams in the Big 10 need tougher schedules in the non conferece season then teams in the Big 12 and SEC because they don't play a conference championship game. Whether that is fair or not, it just seems it is the way it is with the media.

With that said I think it would be a huge mistake in college football to ever play more than 2 big schools in your non conference slate. (besides ISU)

I never want Iowa to play a 1-AA school ever. They do absolutely no good. Might as well schedule Western Kentucky, New Mexico St or some other terrible team. At least it counts as a win over a 1A school, which actually makes a difference in one of the Big Ten tiebreakers.

Every school in the country schedules a 1-AA team. It's smart. It's a practice game 99% of the time and allows coaching to see what works early in the year.

Of course, you need Iowa State, but that's a given. We're picking the three other non-conference games. I chose Nebraska and Missouri because we share borders with them, and other than South Dakota, we already play our other neighboring states in Big Ten play. Also, who doesn't want to Wake Up the Echos of Ol' Notre Dame? Just think if Stanzi or Vandenberg can hook up with Moeaki, McNutt or DJK beneath Touchdown Jesus?

I like you man, but that is flat out not even close to being true. Less than half, by a landslide.

Wrong!

Only 2 teams in the Big 10 didn't play a D1AA team this year! Ohio St (who normally always does ...youngstown st) and Purdue (who does a lot to)

Only 3 teams in the Big 12. But they usually do as well

EVERY team plays a D1AA team. Maybe not EVERY year but they do play them

Not every year??!?! Of course! Well...I guess they ALL have played a 1AA team at some point, but with most programs its an "oh crap, we need to fill our schedule" thing.

You try to find an Akron or Florida International first.

IAA teams are just bogus, plus, if you lose (Michigan), holy ****...

I would say in this order:

1.) NE Louisiana St Technical University
2.) Canadian National Institute for the Blind
3.) Notre Dame

No "Northern Iowa School of the Pregnant Nuns" for some In-state rivalry action?

Oh, we already had a bit of that this year!

What's the deal with Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech on our schedule? If we're going to play anybody from 1AA it should be UNI. I'm relieved that we're at Arizona next year. That's a legit OOC game. Unles ISU keeps improving, the rest of our OOC is a joke next year. I hate that. Play Nebraska. They're my #1 pick, and the reason is simple. Next door neighbor -- one of the elite programs in CFB history. This could be an amazing rivalry --- literally. I also picked USC (selfishly: would love to go watch the HAWKEYES in the Coliseum, unlisted UCLA would also be good.) Utah was my third. Boise State a close fourth. I want to start playing Missouri every year, too ... IN conference.

Have you seen the non-conference schedules of Florida, Texas, and Alabama the past two seasons?

Give me a break, having a conference championship has nothing to do with it, and didn't keep OSU out of the national championship game 2 years in a row.

Northern Iowa - If the athletic department is going to pay some team to come in and get waxed (or beat on 2 last second fg blocks); it might as well be the instate public school to help finance the department
Some mid-major - to beat up mid-majorly
Iowa State - Duh
Some competitive game against a BCS team to get on ABC/ESPN like Pitt, Arizona, Arizona State.

Don't want 2002 Easy or 1992 brutal killer.
