Which team was more explosive? Which had the better defense? Which team had the best intangibles?

Though both lost tough fought battles to directional Michigan schools and both beat a stout NIU team at Soldier, I'd have to go with the 2007 team because Jake just knew how to win those close games.

The 2007 team had something like 12 NFL draft picks on the bench or buried in the 2-deeps. So the 2nd team or practice squad would probably beat the 2012 team if the game were played right now.

Clayborn is hurt, brah. And I doubt they could get Jake to ever wear an Iowa jersey again.

2007 team for sure. They were just a quarterback change away from a great season. The same I guess could be said about the 2012 team, but isn't as likely.

The 2007 defense would dominate the 2012 offense, KOK > GD, 2007 team had better play makers on offense (DJK, Albert Young). I would give the 2012 and edge on the offensive line before the injuries and Meyer > Murray if it came down to field goals.

All in all I say the 2007 team beats this 2012 team.

Definitely the '07 team. They had much more dynamic playmakers on offense, especially prior to the Brodell injury (fair to say that DJK, Brodell, James Cleveland, Albert Young, Tony Moeaki, and Brandon Myers were all better than any of Iowa's skill position players this year?), and the '07 group was much better on the DL.

Vandy, would feel hurried and throw it short and never let anyone get close enough to sack him

Jake would stand back there and look and look and get sacked.

wow, some of you are really going out on a limb saying the 07 defense would have stopped the 12 offense. my son's peewee team could have stopped the 12 offense and i don't even have a son

2007 team would win because the defense would have shut-out the 2012 offense.

Not to hijack the thread, but can someone explain the term "Directional Michigan" to me?

A directional school is a school with a direction (North, South, East, West, Central, etc.) in their school name. Some examples include Northern Iowa, Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois, etc. A "Directional Michigan" therefore is a Michigan school with a direction in their name--Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan.

The game would not be close. 2007 actually played some GREAT defense for most of the year, plus the offensive numbers were pretty much better across the board. Albert Young and Brandon Myers alone gave them two much better offensive threats than anything on the current Iowa roster.

Thanks for explaining it to those of us who took the short bus to school. :)
