Who will have the bigger year DJK or Marvin McNutt

For him to make it worth leaving, considering next year's class of WR's, he's going to have to catch 70+ balls for 1200+ yards and 10+ TD's. I don't see that happening in this offense with DJK on the other side of the field, plus Keenan Davis and Colin Sandeman. McNutt won't have a big enough year to crack next year's crop of receivers. With that group, he'd be a 3rd rounder at best without putting up ridiculous numbers. That's not worth it, especially when he's got a ton more potential.

Demaryius Thomas caught less than 40 balls last season. It is what you produce when you get the ball that counts. McNutt is almost a specialist except he can run with the ball. He may not be as fast as Thomas but he is a rare athlete. Thomas was the first WR drafted this season. McNutt will be on several Top Jr WR lists next year.

Thomas was drafted first because this year's WR class was VERY thin, and Dez Bryant has had some questions about maturity that have brought his stock down. In next year's class, a guy like Thomas does not get taken that high. And he's a Calvin Johnson-like athlete (though not as polished). McNutt isn't that caliber athlete.

Remember, next year's class looks as though it could be the best in history, with Julio Jones, A.J. Green, Michael Floyd, Terrance Toliver, Ryan Broyles, DeVier Posey, Keith Smith, DJK, the list kind of goes on. McNutt would be foolish to jump unless he suddenly was regarded as the top WR in the class. The class is just too deep.

All I am saying is teams don't draft stats, they draft athletes. Julio Jones would be another great example of this. He plays in a conservative offense. He won't produce Big 12 type of numbers but he will produce on film. He will look great shorts. I would prefer that McNutt stay for his senior season. But I would imagine he could have the option to at least consider the NFL after the season.

I'm not necessarily saying that scouts draft the stats. But he doesn't really have much national recognition. A lot of the guys who are going to be available are known by EVERYONE. McNutt would need that kind of ridiculous season to create the kind of attention that would make it worth leaving early. Jones gets that hype because he was a top-flight recruit, and everyone knew about him before he even played a snap in a Tide uniform.

I am pretty certain that talent evaluators will be on campus to see Clayborn, Ballard, Sash, Hunter, Stanzi, and DJK and they might happen to notice the 6'4 guy who happens to catch touchdown passes and run crisp routes, wins jump balls and creates plays with the ball in his hands. Oh yeah he is viewed by his teammates as leader too. I think he is already being scouted.

Regardless, I don't see him leapfrogging the other stars in that class. He would stand to make much more money should he stay. Hopefully he realizes that another year with Campbell could turn him into a top 10 pick.

Great question.
I think it's a great problem to have. I think that McNutt has all the tools to put up huge numbers. He can run, he can jump, and has huge soft hands. I was impressed last year with his ability to battle for balls in the air. He didn't come up with a couple, but he got his hands on some ridiculously tough balls. I would think an off-season can only help his timing and concentration. He will be an absolute nightmare in red zone situations. He reminds me of those UM receivers who could just 'go get it.' Thanks Coach Soup. ;)
DJK has the ability to stretch the defense. I think he'll continue to be a deep threat, and if Stanzi gets time, DJK should have some huge days. I like his abilities after the catch too.
Because the question is who will have the better year, I'll go with McNutt simply because he is a freak. No knock on DJK who will get drafted next year.
Good luck to D coordinators and opposing backfields. Most teams don't have the luxury of one shut down corner, let alone two. Pick your poison boys. Oh yeah, Davis may end up being better than both one day.
Get things figured out up front and Stanzi will have a monster year.

Don't think McNutt has the necessary speed to make the jump to the next level as a Junior, especially in what looks to be a LOADED WR class.

He definitely looked faster at the spring game, and MUCH quicker to accelerate. But I agree, he's still not quite fast enough. Not to get drafted high in what looks to be the best WR class ever.

All things being equal(# of plays on the field), DJK without a doubt. If we bench DJK for wearing converse instead of nike, or not playing the 1st half because he didn't brush his teeth that day like has happened the past few years, McNutt.

If McNutt leaves early, it would only come on the back of an incredible season for the TEAM ... and, in the process, he'd probably have to account for over 1200 yards on O and over 12 TDs.

I love McNutt's upside ... however, I'd honestly be SHOCKED if he left early.

As for who has the better season production-wise. I'd go with McNutt. DJK has a TON more experience than McNutt and at this juncture is a far more polished WR ... all the same, his production was only barely better than McNutt's in 2009.

My prediction ...

DJK = the standard production from him (600 to 700 yards)

McNutt = ball-park of 900 yards

I like McNutt. He has learned the position really well and keeps improving. His size will make him very attractive to the pro scouts. If he does declare early I would love to see Keenan Davis step up.

I'm not sure why people don't understand this. Just because Ferentz doesn't tell us why DJK gets benched doesn't mean that it's for some stupid reason. Go and watch some of Shonn Greene's highlights from 2008. Now, after doing that, tell me how many times you see him actually try to block someone?

He rarely engaged defenders, and was more of a hinderance than a help in 2008. Then once he returned to the starting lineup in 2009, his downfield blocking was magically all better. I wonder if there's a connection?

Wasn't there a point during that same season where DJK was slapping hands with fans in the endzone while a defender was running the other way with a JC intercepted pass? Or was that the year before? Anyways, I'm sure that didn't help to get him out of the dog house at all, either.

DJK

He get all the attention- next year look for 900 yards 9 tds Mcnutt 800-8

I think McNutt will have more than 8 TD's. DJK will have 6-8, but McNutt will have 10 or more. He's such a threat on the goalline; nobody can shut him down, he either beats you over the top on the fade, or he can beat you inside on the slant. You can't defend that.
