who will be starter #5?

I know that starting isn't as important as finishing but it may show a little about what fran wants to start the game off well and how he wants the team to attack. Obviously it seems like we know who 4 starters are (gesell, marble, white, woodbury). I think it comes down to 4 guys for the last spot and that to me relies on how fran wants to attack at the start of the game.

Option 1) mccabe - this is if he wants to really come out and physically beat teams up. Mccabe I also think is the biggest leader on the team which could play a role. This move puts white at the 3 and could make iowa weak on perimeter defense. But it would bring a tough attitude.

Option 2) basabe - this is the move you go with if you really want to get out and run and play with a shot blocker alongside woodbury as woody can alter the shot and basabe can get rid of it...gives a good option to have mccabe and olaseni paired too. Again this move puts white at the 3.

Option 3) may - this move makes me think he is going after full court defense and looking to run with white at the 4. This also seems like a little of a sentimental option as I think the other three players bring more all around than may. May is a leader though not as much as mccabe (in my opinion).

Option 4) ogelsby - this is the guy if you want a legit shooter on the floor. He is the only true shooter on the team and could spread the court for marble and gesell to attack. This is the more standard basketball move but fran isn't the most standard basketball mind.

It will be interesting to see how this team comes along because they are still very young even though they have experience.

Heyhey! Herby's back! Welcome, "redhawk55"!!

At any rate, it's going to be McCabe. He just provides so much versatility on both ends of the floor. Now, Basabe will have equal minutes, and May & Oglesby shouldn't be too far behind. All four of these guys will average between 12 and 20 minutes per game.

That sounds about right. It will/might depend on who we are playing, and who the other team is starting.... Although I could see Fran rotating your first three on a regular basis, regardless of the other team. They all bring something to the table, and they could all be starters for any game... Possibly JO too.

I can see it depending on the match up too. I personally prefer ogelsby in the lineup because I like having a true 3 point sniper out there. But mccabe is my second choice. I actually prefer basabe off the bench I think he can be a ball of energy off the bench with shot blocking and dunks on the run. I don't feel like may should start at all (again personal feeling). He is a good kid but I think he is just a role player off the bench. And ingram will eventually take may's minutes or at least his role next year.

McCaffery said May would be coming off the bench even though he started vs Creighton.
He likes what May brings off the bench.

I think the lineup on Friday will be:
Gesell, Marble, White, McCabe, Woodbury

White at the 3 is a dangerous matchup for the opposition.

This isn't meant to be racist but we have a lot of white dudes on our team...

The difference now is that they are TALENTED white players. I don't care what color the players are, as long as they can ball.

As to the OP:

McCabe is the guy. That's who I'd want, and that's likely who we'll see in the lineup most often. Oglesby would be my second choice.

May and Basabe off the bench bring a huge spark to the team, especially if May can stay healthy. Oglesby is a sniper, and I like having that on the floor a lot. But McCabe is capable of player three different positions, depending on the opposition. He can shoot the three pretty well, he's a banger down low, and brings the right amount of fire to the team.

Haha yes there is a big difference between Aaron White and Brennan Cougill, Mike Gesell and Cully Payne and Adam Woodbury and Seth Gorney.
