Who replaces KF

HC has an article about who might replace KF and when. Wife of KF, BF shares thoughts. KF is said to have "no plans" about when he might retire. I call this absurd. Kirk seldom shows his cards but one thing is certain, he plans, and plans, and seldom is off script. Certainly he has his "plans" in place to the detail, including how "The Family" will remain. The article and comments caught me as strikingly naive. My two cents only.

I doubt he retires anytime soon. First and foremost he has 5 million reasons a year not to retire. Plus things are going pretty smoothly. He has Brian at OC and Parker at DC. Recruiting has been better and he's won his past two bowl games. There is zero pressure on him from the AD.

Couple thoughts

2020 will be a tough schedule with MSU, @OSU, @PSU as crossovers. The schedules get easier after that in 2021 and beyond. 2020 will also be a new QB, but probably not in 2021.

So I think there might be some incentive to retire before the 2020 season, but if Kirk doesn't, he probably would stick around until at least 2021.

If Kirk's goal is to pick his own successor from his own staff, it would probably be better to do what Bob Stoops did and retire in June instead of December. That way Iowa has no choice to name an interim or permanent coach from the current staff.

The only potential wild card in the Brian Ferentz next head coach plan could be if somebody like Bob Stoops leaked it that they would like to come out of retirement to be the head coach at Iowa.

If he has an open ended check to keep coaching, with little pressure, and some nice coin, why would he stop coaching?

He is in it for the long hall and will leave on his terms when it is best for BF to move on in to the legacy fill. (of course after meeting all state legal requirements, interviewing others, to be "fair" and pick the best coach) Unless of course, New England snaps up BF earlier, when they start looking.

I wonder if any college has ever had a football head coach with his son as OC and a BB coach with two of his sons on the roster?

Is this the year where KF and staff out-coach a few other staffs (Wisconsin) to steal some wins and come out ahead rather than sucking hind tit on the close and important watershed games?

Do people really think Brian Ferentz will takeover? Is there any precedent for this kind of nepotism at such a high level of the sport?

A quick google search can find countless articles and lists of father-son coaching tandems. But hiring one's son as a grad assistant or positional coach is one thing, giving him the reigns to the program is another. It seems these rumors and conversations have become quite advanced among our fanbase. I have to think that the national landscape of college football would laugh at us if BF takes over.

If Barta's still at the helm when Kirk hangs it up, there's a much higher probability that the kid with the silver spoon will take over.

He will go til 68 at least. Dude is in great shape for his age. Have seen him running with Doyle. He works out.

At this point Mary Ferentz will have more say than Gary Barta will.

New QB better have the nerves worked out by the games at OSU and PS next year. Betting it will end up being Petras.
