Who pays for all of this?

One has nothing to do with the other.

That's not my point. I realize the Athletic Department is not subsidized by taxes … it's self reliant. The point is the "who cares who pays" attitude people have these days. That's why this country is $17 trillion dollars in debt. As a booster of the athletic department I'd rather have my money going to another scholarship or facility improvement and not a 2nd trip to IU because they made a dumb decision.

take a stab at what $ amount you think the expense totals to. how many people travelling, flight costs, food costs, room costs, travel costs to and from the airport/hotel. plus time taken away from activities that would normally be happening instead of retravelling.....i.e. prepping for next game, studies, recruiting, etc.

CHUMP change for an athletic dept that prints $$.

I'm with Burky on this one, who gives a ****. Nobody's going backrupt or will skip a beat for any additional travel costs.

Truth is we're just fans that have seen our team play once in two weeks and are anxious for another game.

No way do I believe any of you fans are truly concerned about this tiny financial impact.

In my head, I can actually hear Iverson going off about this.

"We're sittin here talkin bout travel expenses. Not the game...not the game...but we talkin bout travel expenses."

I agree with Iba that this is due to frustration because everyone was anxious to see us play on super Tuesday. But pick your battles a little better. If you're honest with yourselves, you know this isn't worth bringing up. Hell my crappy run of the mill Juco team had emergency funds built into the budget for things like this. You really think this is an issue for the University of Iowa?

If Indiana doesn't reimburse Iowa for travel expenses I am sure they could get it from the big 10 they would just siphon off some of Indianas tv revenue.

No frustration here. Just an honest question.

Not a shot at any posters, but I really laugh hard at the thought of the B1G paying any portion of these expenses.

So, who is responsible for travel costs of a regular season conference game? I have no idea and was wondering what happens in this case. I assume when the two teams have a home and home, they each pick up their own expenses. But what if there is just one game that season. Is it still the travel team that picks up 100%, or does the conference write a check at the end of the season to each school depending on number of miles traveled?

Just curious if anyone on here actually knows.

Each school picks up the cost of their own travel expenses for away games.

Sounds like you might work for the government if you are not concerned about expenses. As a taxpayer and supporter of the athletic department I am … IU should reimburse.

I'm confident that you are smart enough to know that the athletic dept. is self-sustaining. So being a tax payer isn't relevant to this topic. Keep your politics in your pocket.

I'm a supporter of the athletic dept. as well. I'm pretty confident that ticket prices won't be increasing because of this incident. Your concerns about the University's expenditures are brave and noble, but ultimately unnecessary in this case.

So we get it, you are in the, "who cares who pays for this" camp. That's fine … we can have differences of opinion on this. To make it reals simple, my original point is money does not grow on trees. Someone is paying for this and it should not be the University of Iowa Athletic Department … it should be Indiana. Yes, questioning public institutions on how dollars are spent is brave and noble, especially when there are better alternatives (like playing somewhere in the great state of Indiana on Wed night).

While the B1G is more than willing to share/distribute the revenue, I find it comical to think that they would ever consider picking up the bill for a universitites expenses.

Principle of the matter. IU has taken zero responsibility. Their athletic dept has looked clumsy as shi* this week, and its painfully obvious they’re only acting in the best interest of themselves.

you are naive if you believe this. travel expenses are a huge concern given the athletic departments of most schools run in the red, save for some football programs. $100k would not be seen as 'chump change' to either of the institutions involved.

do you think indiana's athletic department is a cash cow? you ever seen their football stadium on any given saturday?

So now your concerned that Indiana's athletic department is going to lose money on this deal?

I don't care about other Athletic Departments.

Is the University of Iowa's in the black?

Yes overall travel expense is a big deal but if you think one additional trip to Indiana for the basketball team is going I affect the 90 mil that the iowa athletic dept makes in revenue, then I think you are naive.
