With the 2012 class one day away from being official, who is everybody's pick for sleeper in this class. Obviously can't pick a highly touted guy for your sleeper.

Mine? Daumantas Venckus. High motor guy that will put some weight on and be a terror along the d line in a couple years.

It's nice to be able to say that aside from Buford (Who I just don't know anything about - it has nothing to do with any perceived skill), the other 2* players all look to be great players.

Followed the kicker during his Senior season.. seems pretty legit.

Everyone needs to keep in mind that the staff passed on several 3* rated players to chose each and every one of the unrated 2* players this year. So, the staff must have felt that they were the better options and had greater potential then many of those with the higher rating by Scouts and Rivals .

Garmon is my choice, not hearing much about him but think he's gonna be one heck of a DE once he puts weight on... I know he's listed as a RB but he will transition well to the defensive side of the ball. Go Garmon!!

Agree, I think he's got a good shot to take Pat Dean's spot at the nose when he graduates.

He is my choice also.

Although the kid who played 8-man is intriguing also.

Meier is my choice. He might not cut it as a running back (though I think he could be fast enough to be the "thunder" to Garmon's "lightning"), but he could be made into a solid linebacker or DE.

I'll go with Nate Meier. I like that he wont get homesick, I like that he is very fast for his size, and from what I heard he plays like a mad man. I like that he is already as strong as an ox. I like that in HS he had so many carries (even if it was against smaller teams) and I hope that impacts his ability to hold onto the rock. I like that he is an Iowa kid and that maybe what it takes to shed this problem we have with rb's.
I dont like that he is from Iowa and was thinking about Nebby, but I dont think we offered until late and he decided soon after we did, so I will give him a pass on that.

Yeah we didn't offer until recently, and Nebraska has been on him for awhile. Plus, there are a LOT of Nebraska fans in SW Iowa.

His biggest adjustment as a running back is going to be getting used to the fact that he's gonna get popped. He could hardly be brought down in high school because he was so much bigger and faster than everyone on the field.

Not sure if these would be considered "sleepers" or not, but I think that Reuben Lile and Drew Ott will both have great careers at Iowa. Lile has been getting a lot of pub from the recruting services for his size and athleticism. Some were surprised he was a 3*. Based on what I have read about Ott he is a very hard worker, those high motor type players usually pay dividends at Iowa.

I agree, if Ott's work ethic is half of what is advertised, he could have a very good career.

He wants to play running back, and he's been told he'll get a chance to see what he can do there.

Yeah, but in the end I think he ends up at LB. We still need some depth there and he looks like an AJ Derby type where he could play a couple different positions and be successful at either.

I dont see it, we need a big brutal back. I cant hardly beleive his 40 time is that of someone 30-40 pounds lighter. He could be one heck of a rb, and given that is where his heart lies, I think he will give it all he has to get that spot. My biggest worry is with his size already and how fast and strong he is, if he adds another 25 pounds, they are going to move him to DE, but holy he11 he would be a force at that position as well. I could see a Jared Allen in the making.
