Who here felt good b/f the MN game?

I sure did. MN was (and still is) a pretty mediocre ballclub.
The beating we took just completely threw me......

Right there with ya. I thought there was a good chance we would do to them what they did to us. Or close to it anyway.

I thought Iowa would probably win between 10-17 points......maybe a close Minny win. I NEVER in a million years would think mediocre Minny would hang 50+ on us in a route.

Yeah, I thought the jNW drubbing was a statement, of sorts. jNW always gives us fits, under Fitz, against kfootball. I thought it was a righting of the ship. Not quite.

After thumping NW and against a one-dimensional team that had lost to Illinois? Yeah, I felt pretty decent about our chances. Kirk just keeps fooling me. Shame on me, I guess.

The same mistakes are happening over-and-over. Now add in getting out-toughed by Minnesota.

Hawks will be fortunate to go 7-5.
Being average in a urine-poor league is not even reaching the mark of average.

Thankfully two cupcake non-conference games of UNI and Ball St help push the wins over .500. (yes, tongue in cheek)

I thought we might lose this game going in but I never saw the complete drubbing we got coming. Never thought we would be so thoroughly man handled on both sides of the ball and quit so early in a contest. It looked like the varsity against the freshman team after the first offensive series.

The NW game was so refreshing and I hoped it was a sign of a team finally playing excellent Iowa football and not an aberration. Wrong.

The thing that struck me was our programs inability to detect the intensity and toughness which Minny was going to bring. They have been talking about beating us down for the past 2 seasons under Kill and they had so believed they were going to do so last year. That made last years win so rewarding. How could we then be so unprepared to match an opponents aggression under KF. It is like we had no idea they were going to punch us in the face. They had been very vocal about this game for the past 2 weeks. Embarrassing to show up with zero will. To allow someone to call their shot and then deliver it. Wow.

I had a horrible feeling, we'd beat Indiana and everyone on here said that Jake was the second coming of Jesus. Then we played horrible and got spanked by Maryland followed up by playing the best game we can play against a bad Northwestern team. I saw the cycle. I thought that we would play poorly and lose, but I had no idea we'd just lay down and get destroyed like we did.

I'm done with Ferentz, but he has done one thing good. I remember growing up in the 80s and we beat Northwestern down every time we played them. Other then Iowa State they were the one game you never had to worry about. Thanks to Ferentz and his failures we had Hawk fans rejoicing and thumping their chests because we beat a 3-6 Northwestern team. Before Ferentz no Iowa fans would have been excited about beating a crappy team like that. :)

I was actually quite nervous about the game. I really thought it would be a tough fight and a close game, with the difference coming down to turnover battle, field position, and limiting Cobb and the TE. Although we got destroyed in all 3 of those things...I never in a million years thought we would lose by 2+ touchdowns, let alone 5.

Basically, I truly believed we needed to play a good game all around to win at their house, with them having a bye week and the pain of the Illinois loss. Instead, they played great, and we played the worst I have seen in 10+ years.

It makes me sick.

It's hard to get upset about the beating we took, bottom line were not that good.Usually teams are playing there best ball this time of year. I will always root our Hawkeyes on but man they sure make it hard. Hope they can figure it out we still have three games to play.Go Hawks

I did not feel good going into the Minnesota game. One good game does not wash away what most of this season has been. I did not think Minnesota was a good team either so in no way did I see a beating like that coming but it didn't surprise me that Iowa lost.

I was concerned. I saw Iowa fans saying that Minny could not pass a lick, but they had 400 yards passing total the prior two games, with an average of around 15yrds/reception...so I know that Leidner was getting into a rythmn with deep passing.

I had Iowa by 4. Well, I was way wrong. Minny did have everything going for them....bye week, home game, bad weather, high motivation...etc . I am also concerned about the Illini, who have all the same stuff going for them....bye week, home game, windy, high motivation to save their coach's job, and star QB returns from injury.....very nervous about this game.

I did. Thought Iowa found themselves a little bit. I was very wrong.

Same here. I knew that NW wasn't good, but 48-7... Yeah, I felt good.

I expected a close game against Minny, and liked Iowa's chances of winning, probably by about a TD or so.

Ooops.

Iowa followed up one of it's best games in a while with one of the worst ones in KF's tenure. It's maddening.

Due to my usual optimism, I thought the NW game would set a positive tone with Iowa, especially on offense, and that we would beat MN by a couple of TD's. That said, I was nervous about the game, but I am nervous about all of Iowa's games. I was absolutely devastated by the loss...I would have been very disappointed if we had lost a close, hard fought game. But, the fact that we did not even show up was down right embarrassing.

A side note: I ran into the father of two of MN's back up O linemen after the game and had a nice chat with him. No way did he gloat, but of course he was happy to get a W. He said, "I never would have thought the game would go that way. I was mostly fearful that Iowa would run away with it. If someone showed me the score after the game and said, '51-14; who won?' I would have bet that Iowa got the victory." Interesting. (His boys are twins and don't get much playing time; he also has a son who played at Michigan.)
