Mike Daniels, Coker, and Hyde all had their coming out parties this season (Daniels) or in the bowl game (Coker and Hyde). I think Bernstine is a good call if he can stay healthy and out of trouble. Keenan Davis finally gets to start so that will be interesting to see what he can do with the ball. I think the three names we'll be looking back on after next season that rose from somewhat obscurity or limited reps to being a studd on our team will be Bigach, Alvis and Tanner Miller. I think Tanner Miller will prove to be the real deal next year and i'm expecting Bigach and Alvis to actually make next years D-line better than the vaunted one of this year.
Hyde showed off how much of an athlete he his with his big INT plays and coverage has improved, but I think he still has a lot of work to do before I'm excited to see him lined up in our secondary. Think it was the Michigan game they threw it to his side four plays in a row.
But I would love to see Hyde as Pr/kick returner. On a punt coverage play where the punt went to the endzone Hyde was at full speed when he reached up and caught the ball directly over head. His hands are good, his speed is great, with decent depth we shouldn't be worried to put him in as a returner.
Speaking on punts, do you think its part of Ferentz conservative idealogy to have Donohaue punt it to the back of the endzone instead of trying to sideline it at the 10? Maybe he's worried about the risk of shanking it way to the right? Or do you think this is more of an ability issue that Don had?
I think perhaps it was a combination. Donahue shanked a few over the years, but I don't remember Ferentz ever having a punter (with the exception of Baker, but I never saw him kick in college) try to coffin corner it.
