Who gets the carries

If this smoke appears to be fire and Wegher will be gone from the team, then who do you think gets the first game carries? Do we just go with A-rob, Rogers, White, and Paki, to redshirt Coker and Johnson, or do you think one of the freshman make it on the field.

Also on a side note. How many games now till Jewel is the starter? I give it Arizona.

I think JH will be starting at some point this season, but...

he is a running back that is coming off major knee surgery a year ago and has had zero game speed situations since then. I know the rehab these players go through is tremendous, but it is almost as mental as it is physical, especially for a guy who uses his legs like JH. If you've been through a surgery like that you can understand a bit better I think. If you haven't its hard to understand how difficult it is to trust the knee and fully open up without fearing it will happen again.

That said, he'll get significant minutes in the early games and be the guy by B10 season.

White is back in the secondary. Paki is a SR and will primarily just play on special teams and possibly in clean-up duty.

If I were to guess, if there is substance to Wegher taking a LOA (and I doubt it at this early juncture), then Rogers would probably be the next in line to see reps. However, if Coker really impresses during camp ... he could definitely enter into the picture. We'll see ....

This.

Rogers would be next in line if the season started tomorrow. If Coker impresses the staff in camp, it wouldn't be suprising at all to see them throw the frosh into the mix.

I think we start the season off with Robinson and Rogers. Too bad Brinson had to leave he could have been able to do his thing this year.

Mac -

I have absolutely no worries about our RB situation in 2010 ... with or without Wegher. You need to relax a bit more!

i say robinson and hampton carry the load in 2010. robinson will be the number 1 back going into the season. but once hampton is back to normal it will be hampton as the number 1 but robinson will get his fair share of carries as well. but im not believing this whole wegher stuff until its confirmed. everone thought parker was retiring to and thats not happening

Next thing you're gonna say is that AJ Derby is still at QB ... you loon!

I would hope that we're in position to get Rogers some carries and it would not surprise me to see Paki get rewarded with some too. Eastern IL should give us some room to see both these guys in action and keep J-Robs carries close to his normal load. I'd hate to see Coker burn a red shirt year for a few carries in game one.

At this point I don't know when Brandon will be back, but he could be on the sidelines and play if needed for all I know. I'm guessing he's back in class at least at the start of the school year.

We might even open it up a bit with a few more passing plays.

Dont sleep on Johnson. If it wasnt for that injury he could have been as highly ranked as Coker, Plus he is extremely hungry right now.

If Paki carries the ball in any game where we aren't leading by at least three touchdowns with time running down in the 4th quarter I'll stand up and leave the stadium in protest.

I really hope Hampton can go. I think Hampton can be an above league average back. To me, Robinson is about a league-average back. I have serious concerns about whether Rodgers has the explosion necessary to be even an average Big 10 back. I see his role becoming more of the Jeremy Allen big-back/fullback hybrid type. Coker might have physical talent, however, I'm not certain the assignment, playbook, pass-blocking aspects of his game will be ready to go anytime soon.

I'm always amazed at people who think he depth at RB. We're one injury away from very shaky depth. If Hampton and Robinson can stay health all year, we're fine, if not...

If Clay can be a big ten back then Rogers can be a big ten back. Rogers is in a lot better shape and does have some deceptive speed.

I'm an Adam Robinson homer, but I am constantly flabbergasted by the lack of respect the kid gets. I mean someone on here is still whining about Brinson!! Adam set the all time freshman rushing record for the Hawks last year, getting just over half the total carries. He was thrown into the fire as the starter, and averaged 4.6 ypc in his freshman tour. I think JH showed a lot of promise, but the vast majority of his carries came after the nation's best RB had pounded opposing defenses to mincemeat. And JH is coming off an ACL tear, as is noted above, and will probably still not be the same RB he was.

And one more thing, and remember who the coaches are: AR didn't put it on the ground once last year. That's some serious cred w/ KF and crew.

Once again Iowa goes into the season with a situation whereby they will not be able to get all the wheels running in game one. We go in with one experienced Big Ten quality back. That means the offense just got scaled back radically. If ARob gets banged up the game it gets scaled back more.

Never thought Hampton's lack of judgment would hurt this bad.

No one is whining about Brinson. I just said that i wish he was here still to show what he could do. I didnt know that was considered whining. If that was the case then everyone on here is a bunch of babies for whining over players they want to commit to Iowa.

Just because they are both "big" doesn't mean they are equally explosive. Clay was a top 100 rivals recruit with tons of offers. He is explosive and powerful, an extremely physically gifted running back. Rogers wasn't even the the full-time feature back in high school, is far shorter (stumpier) than Clay, and I guarantee lacks some of the physical talent Clay has.
